travelled with a coach party for a weekend at the hotel. Food was plentiful, our room was huge with a great view over stunning countryside. They cater it seems mainly for older customers who enjoy dancing bingo and cabaret so thats fine if thats your thing. There is a slight feeling of being an outsider though so would not stay... more

This is not a 4 star hotel. Bedrooms are sparse and functional rather than comfortable. But the staff are in a different league - morose, monosyllabic come to mind. When we arrived our details had already been entered onto a visitor's card which was handed to my wife without a word. Breakfast is served "from 0830". By 0855 when we... more

Great hotel with good service, ideal base for Hadrians Wall, will definately stay again. Not the Ritz but the price reflects that. more

The Gilsland Spa is a time-warp hotel, and Phoenix Nights come to life. Just the place for you if you are on a coach trip, like dodgy decor, bingo and loud rather than good cabaret singing. Our room was tiny; had to put the suitcases behind the door, and couldn't get into the bathroom with the wardroble door open. But... more

unfortunately this hotel mainly caters for oaps, it is unsuitable for guests under the age of 60, the rooms were basic and in need of updating, when dining you are expected to share a table with at least 4 other guests so there was no privacy when having meals, best thing about visiting this hotel was the drive home !! more

We booked this hotel for it's location so close to Hadrian's wall. When I phoned I was warned that the "younger crowd" in that weekend meant the entertainment would be different from normal. Not having been before, this didn't worry us. We had a wonderful weekend and were very impressed with the hotel. As other reviews state, it is welcoming,... more

we stayed at the hotel for our wedding which was at gretna green, the staff were fantastic and could not do enough for us, the room we had was very spacious and spotlessly clean with lovely views, . the food was lovely (and plentyful) with excellent choice and a great full english breakfast... we could not fault the service, the... more
