We attended a Wedding Reception following a wedding at nearby Gretna Green. There were 24 attendees and we accommodated in the Main Restaurant. The service and attention was excellent and the food was exceptional. Seven of us returned the following day for an evening meal. The pub and restaurant were extremely busy but had a tremendous ambiance. Although they were... More

It's a number of years since our last visit but thought we would have a family meal there on a Saturday lunch time. Well worth the trip, good varied selection of dishes and the quality of food was excellent as we're the portion sizes. The staff were very welcoming, cheerful and helpful, especially in assisting my disabled father to a... More

We used to go regularly, but hadn't been for a while, then went with another couple the weekend before Christmas. I did think it wasn't as busy as I'd expected it to be, now I know why. The service was initially mediocre, but probably not worth complaining about specifically. There were a significant number of dishes not available (run out),... More

Located in an attractive village with easy access to Hadrians Wall. The food was good value for money and we enjoyed the open fire in the bar. The room was a good size and comfortable, although we did on occasion hear the kitchen fans.

Went here for Sunday roast lunch. The pub was busy, which is usually a good sign. The portion sizes were what I would call a "pensioners special", ie smaller than usual. The roast potatoes were 4 very small Aunt Bessie's style. They could do with adding another veg and some mashed potatoes and cooking proper roast potatoes. I did wonder... More

Lovely setting in the middle of the village. Room on the right with fire very cosy and atmospheric, restaurant and garden room cold and unappealing. Food quite nice, recommend chicken & leek pie and fish pie. Bar staff welcoming but locals seemed less friendly.

We had a very enjoyable overnight stay on our walking holiday. Everyone was so friendly they even gave us a lift to our start. Very clean, fab breakfast and I can't think what more they could have done for us. We will definately revisit.

We spent a delightful week-end at this village pub. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff providing good service. The draft beer was well kept, the wines very good value for money, and we enjoyed a range of tasty dishes including breakfast. The accommodation was of a high standard and very comfortable. The establishment has a community feel... More

I have stayed at the Blacksmiths on a number of occasions with my family, the last visit being about eight weeks ago, and have always found the welcome extremely friendly and the service and food of a very high standard. Our rooms are always spotless and are of a good standard for this type of accommodation. The menu is extensive... More

I stayed here for the weekend for a friends wedding and really enjoyed it. The staff were all very friendly and made me feel welcome and at home.
