Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks starting on 12 July 2008. We have nothing but praise for this hotel, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room maid in particular gets a special mention. We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Hotel Excelsior and overall were very happy with the accomodation. Having read past reviews i was worried what we would find when reaching our hotel, however the excelsior has recently been completely gutted and modernised. The end result is a ver comfortable hotel. Our room had a side facing balcony and could see a small part of the lake. The staff was friendly and very helpful, speaking english and german.... more

Like some of the other reviewers, I wonder if we have been staying at the same hotel, but clearly, some visitors have higher standards than others, particularly when it comes to food. We stayed at this hotel in may this year , this was a great holiday the food was excellent , never repeated the whole week. The staff were helpful and friendly and the rooms comfortable. Having read clients reviews of the Excelsior in Garda, visiting it in May 2008, I can say they are mostly out of date as it has been renovated inside and out to a high standard. We booked this holiday with Thomson and paid extra for a lake view but the hotel is surrounded by large trees so we could only glimpse the lake.Not worth the extra money.The bathroom and bedrooms are dated but clean.The only way out of the hotel to the lake was along a very busy road with no pavement.
