Upon arriving at the Maratea train station, we found out that taxis do not frequent this train station in the evening. Luckily, one of our (Italian) fellow train riders kindly offered us a ride to the Bed&Breakfast Laino, knowing otherwise we would be stranded at the train station. We had the hotel's street name, but were turned around a few times before finding the hotel. The hotel itself is lovely--very quaint and peaceful, a true B&B. However, the staff was lacking when we requested a restaurant for dinner. We explained to the staff that we do not have a car; is there a restaurant within walking distance? We were directed down a winding dark street with no street lights. As this was not a safe option, we asked again and again stressed that we do not have a car. We were told there were no other restaurants in the area.
