This hotel – a Relais de Silence has many plus points if like us, you want a week, 3 miles up a forested lane in the Vosges, and you enjoy walking for miles up a huge variety of mountain forest paths. Club Vosgien produces a detailed walking map of all the Vosges and the hotel usefully gave us a free Club map of the immediate area. The hotel is in a clearing next to a small clutch of houses and there are some attractive views. There is a strong emphasis on Alsacian cuisine – which at times is heavy. Pork is a great favourite. The food in the light and airy restaurant, frequented by some locals, was generally good to very good. The quiet beamed bedroom was spacious very clean and comfortable. There is a quiet reading room. Service was always very professional but there was sense of distance, rather than warmth, which was the only nit pick that we would identify.
