We were there from Oct 10th to Oct 17th, 2008. We had an excellent stay and everything we need we were answered promptly. The hotel and the room was always clean and tidy. The breakfast was a typical French petit-déjeuner: pay attention on this because the Fench breakfast is different from other countries and you may think that it is... more
After 15 years of international travel this was the most dreaful hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in (developing countries and back packers dorms included). We booked the hotel for two nights on the recommendation of the tourist board located near the market square. We were given the 'last' twin room available. The room was located off... more
65 euros. Breakfast 7 euros. Free parking [amounting to a large patch of muddy grass!] – about 5 mins walk away, up a hill behind a private school. Boom gate – so probably reasonably safe. Internet available: 2 euros for 15 minutes!! Small room, but clean and centrally located -being right in the centre of Sarlat. Dinner at Jardin des... more
Character (converted convent) hotel off cobbled medieval back street. Air con welcome. Small smart room but decor getting worn. Breakfast in attractive openair cloister. Away from traffic. Acess on foot only. more
A beautiful building right in the heart of Sarlat. Just a few seconds walk to all the restaurants. We had a great room with a fabulous view, and the room was very cleverly designed with plenty of storage and a good bathroom. The staff were really charming and we had breakfast every day in the old ambulatory or on the... more
We chose Hotel des Recollets despite the few negative reviews on this site (and because of the positive ones) because it sounded like a perfect hotel for our purposes. We stayed there 7 days (Sept. 27-Oct. 3, '07) and used the charming town of Sarlat-la-Caneda as our home base, making day trips around this fascinating region. Looking back now on... more
The photos on the hotel's website made the rooms look somewhat cramped and dark, and before we arrived in Sarlat, I wondered whether I should have reserved elsewhere. I needn't have been worried. The room itself (admittedly one of the more expensive ones) was light and airy, with two windows, one overlooking the cobblestone street below and the other looking... more
The Recollets is one of a very small remaining number of French hotels which appear to find guests a nuisance. We have travelled to France annually for nearly 30 years and this attitude, usually reserved for "foreigners", has almost dissappeared over that period. The Recollets has only been around for 5 or 6 years and it will probably not last... more
This is not a Bed & Breakfast and on their website they have the prices for each room, just for the room. I specifically asked on email for a room without breakfast but they quoted me with a price that included breakfast. We were desperate to get a room so we booked it. When I got there I asked if... more
