Booked hotel as part of a Times readers special offer without looking at reviews. Feared the worse before travelling but these were completely unfounded. Yes, not too easy to find with instructions provided but this is where a good satnav system comes in use. Unfortunately, half the streets in Cambrai were being dug up on the day of our arrival so... more

We stayed for three nights in one of the solid, brick-built chalets in the charming grounds. Our room was warm, comfortable and quiet with plenty of soap, shampoo and hot water, generally very good value for money. Other reviewers have obviously been unlucky; on our last night there was some sort of salesmans' convention on, all the chalets were full... more

We don't appreciate being lied to. This highly overrated dump is in a dreadful, rough part of the outskirts of Cambrai. NOWHERE was it even suggested that our room would not be in the chateau but one of the dirty, scruffy, damp, smelly, tiny, little chalets (furnished by an incompetant DIY idiot) at the bottom of the garden. By the... more

The hotel was very hard to find, and there were two weddings in full flow when we arrived. We were disappointed to find that the standard room we had booked was actually a scruffy chalet 200m away from the chateau - there's nothing on the hotels.com website to tell you this when you are booking, nor on the booking confirmation.... more

My husband and I stayed at the Chateau in June for one night whilst we visited a WW1 memorial nearby. As the previous reviews mention the drive from the nearby town to the Chateau is very strange and the blocks of flats around the chateau make you feel like you are in the middle of a council estate. The staff... more

Having booked prior to reading reviews was worried. We stayed in the rooms in the small wooded area away from the Chateau. Although somewhat dated in appearance the room was clean and comfortable; we only wanted to sleep in it, not live in it. The staff were friendly and helpful. Although surrounded by council properties we did not feel threatened when... more

Having read these reviews before staying in this hotel I was expecting the worst. It is true about it being in the middle of a french council estate, and scarily there are dogs that patrol the grounds to keep them out!! But once you are in the hotel you forget all this. There are some really good deals on various... more

The good news is that the hotel has lovely public rooms; it is a grand chateau. The breakfast was also very good. However, the bad news very much outweighs the good news. The room that we stayed in, Room 6 in the chateau, did not live up to the rest of the hotel. It was very small and stuck up... more

So what don't travel companies tell you about Le Chateau De La Motte Fenelon.... well i'll tell you! 1) It's located, somewhat unbelievably, in the middle of a french council estate 2) If you are unlucky enough to find yourself staying the night, you will most likely end up staying in the substandard chalets over 200metres away! They are not... more

Beautiful chateau hotel, far enough off the north France tourist trail to feel like a real getaway. We had one of the chateau rooms, which at EUR 85 felt extremely reasonable. The hotel also has rooms elsewhere in the grounds, but these look less "authentic" if you want the feel of chateau living. The chateau (beautiful staircase, suit of armour,... more
