Staying at the Barrowville was a real treat. From the moment you open the front door, you are treated royally. The breakfasts are great and it is so wonderful looking out the garden while enjoying your meal. The house is tastefully decorated, with wonderful antiques, and the rooms are very clean. To top everything, the hosts are truly charming and... more

Anna Smyth is an absolutely wonderful host and runs one of the nicest B&B's we've had the pleasure to stay in while visiting Ireland. Her gracious home is filled with warmth and antiques, and her gourmet pancakes are delicious, as well as the other offerings at breakfast. Our room was lovely, spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Anna made sure... more

This is a really lovely guesthouse to stay in - and the new owners are particularly friendly and helpful. The house itself is beautiful, especially the grapevine! I enjoyed the breakfast - but then I normally do! By the way, the website is pretty good to give a good sense of what the house is about. It's at www.barrowville.com I... more

this place is under new ownership and just as well from the bad reviews i read , thankfully the newer reviews are much more accurate and give a truer picture of the beautiful house and it's owners. will stay again when back in carlow , but when people start reading the new reviews it is going to be harder to... more

I booked the barrowville house after seeing pictures on the internet, and was really looking forward to staying there, and I was not dissapointed. I had booked at the last minute as I was surprising my mother-in-law and my aunt, who are both in their 70's, and unfortunately couldn't get the rooms for two nights, which was a shame, as... more

My husband and I just spent 3 nights at this property. We both (especially me) travel extensively and would normally not select a B&B but this one was recommended to us by a local friend. The breakfast was great (homemade breads, scones and jams), the price very good value we thought (Euro 55 per person), the bedroom large (but don't... more

Having stayed in a lot of B&B’s when I started out in business I told myself I would never stay in one again once I built up my business. I was sick to death of nosy women quizzing me on entrance to their houses. So it was with much regret that I had to book into one when I found... more

I have read all of the other reviews submitted and i can understand exactly where each are coming from. The problem with this beautiful guesthouse is that the owners are very selective about who they want within their property. The reviewer who has had no such problems obviously was the "right type of person". The three other reviewers represented the... more

Having read a glowing report of this guest house in another guide I booked it after finding myself in Carlow late yesterday evening. I was delighted to get a single room at such short notice (it was about 7 pm) and arrived there at about 8pm. I quoted a rate of 55 euro inclusive for B&B and told that included... more

Not quite the warm and hospitable atmosphere we expected. It was our 20th day and we had received such warm and helpful atmospheres at all other B&Bs. Randal was not quite the host we expected. Since we were only there for 1 night, he let us know that's why he put us on the 3rd floor (42 steps to climb).... more
