The Taverna Lusitana was simply unique. Its location and design, incorporated into the incredible hillside village of Monsanto, were stunning. The food was good, the owners were great - would defy anyone not to have a wonderful experience here.

My husband & I (with our friends Ron & Carol) visited Monsanto & stayed at Taverna Lusitana - April 2013. The B & B & town are very unique - the most beautiful place I have ever visited - would go back in a second. Service & food were great - especially the flaming chorizo sausage on the stone deck... We didn't sleep in the tavern, we stayed in another place, but we came there to eat and drink (at the evening and during the day). This is very nice, small place with great owner. Take a "Magic potion" drink he makes)) The food was extremely good. I would recommend this place very much )))

I stay at this place during a cycling trip through Spain and Portugal. The village of Monsanto is beyond description built atop of one one these granit rocks cropping out Beira's high plains. The mountain is covered with huge house-sized boulders and the houses are weaves into these boulders.. Tough climb if you cycle but 100 times worth the effort.... More

In the centre of Monsanto, on the road to the castle, and a couple of steps from a miradouro. Our room was characterful - no two walls were parallel and the rock that forms a wall of the taverna below reappeared in our bathroom. Above all, it was warm, in one of the coldest and wettest March's that Portugal has... More

It was rainy, foggy and cold. We had been walking around the historical village of Monsanto, close to the border with Spain. Old ladies looking at us from behind the window curtains, houses built within the stone, a cat meowing in the distance. Near the castle we came across a cut out figure of a Lusitanian warrior marking the entrance.... More

This tavern is primarily a restaurant with two rooms for rent. My wife and I did not stay here, but did have a leisurely dinner and long conversations with the owners. They are a young cpouple from Lisbon. Outside the restaurant is a hokey cut out pre-Roman Luisitanian, which made me wary of the quality of the place. My fears... More
