A group of five of us were walking 40 miles in the Peak District Dales and Chose Castle Cliffe because it was half way along the route - John Merril's Limey Way from Castleton to Thorpe in Dovedale. The accommodation was spot on for walkers - lovely log fire in the evenings, plenty of hot water for the showers and... more

great hotel, very welcoming couple who owned the hotel, no complaints there, and the views are of course lovely, but I would say do not stay in the room at the top of the hotel, we went there for some lovely walking then to get some peace and quiet at night in the room, ideal of course if you have... more

Management response from

Naturally, we are very disappointed that some of our guests suffered a disturbed night’s sleep. On the night in question, we had a group of wedding guests arriving late on a Friday evening. The last to arrive did not do so until 11:30 pm. Normally, new arrivals are welcomed with tea and homemade cakes in the guest lounge, but, due...

My local butcher told us about Monsal Head. He stayed at the hotel, we stayed at castle cliffe. Very nice. Room 4 best B&B room we have ever stayed in . Breakfast keeps you going all day. Greeted by Neil with tea and homemade shortbread, served in the comfortable lounge. Room lovely, with recently refurbished and spacious en suite. All rooms have great views (ours slightly obscured by tree outside the front door!) Top class breakfast choices. Booked for one night en route home, but stayed for an extra one. Would take our fussy friends when visiting... more

My husband and I wanted a nice bed and breakfast location near to a weding we were attending. Castle Cliffe came reccommended by the bride. We were absolutely delighted with both the room and the warm welcome. The room had stunning views over Monsal Dale and had been recently referbished to a very high standard. Cleanliness was top notch. The... more

Warm welcome - took care of muddy boots etc, - really comfortable room with lovely view, helpful recommendations for eating locally and simply the best kind of breakfast to set us up for another walking day. This is the kind of B&B we hope to... more

Came away for one night retreat from the children - was superb. Our room was number 4 that looked down on to Monsall Trail. Breathtaking views. On arrival, we were greeted by Jackie with pot of tea and warm chocolate brownies - delightful. Our room was spacious, and nicely furnished. So very peaceful. Breakfast was nice - traditional English breakfast... more

We booked for 1 night only after bank holiday weekend and wished we could have stayed longer. Our room was fantastic, large, beautifully decorated with a large high spec en suite, large bed and spectacular views over Monsal Head viaduct. We were welcomed with tea and cake which after our walk in the morning was well received. Jackie & Neil... more
