I would highly recommend The Cheshire Cheese after spending a night there last weekend. It has an excellent location, about 5 minutes from the centre of Hope in the beautiful Peak District. Fantastic walks nearby, we headed to Castleton via Lose Hill and returned to spend our evening in the pub. Theres a fantastic selection of real ales which my... more

Spent a short break in the peak district .The "cheese" was a lovely welcoming place to stay. Great breakfast & good varied menu. Staff very helpfull & welcoming, would stay there again when in the area. Sampled other hostelries in the village but would give the cheese number one position. more

Only popped in for lunch. The landlords son was most welcoming and ran through the real ales available, then popped off to help chef make lunch! Fire in main bar was smokey and staff had to open front door to make it draw up chimney. Batter on starter was overcooked and a bit dry, home made ale pie was good... more

We stayed during a lovely snowy weekend in February and had a really nice time. The pub is friendly and with a great selection of malt whiskies (on optic?!), the food is pretty good and the open fires are roaring all day... Its in a quaint spot on the edge of the village and does an excellent breakfast. more

An example of Cheshire Cheese hospitality. We spent two nights there in June 2008. On the morning we left, we had to catch the 9 am bus to Sheffield that meant we would miss breakfast. No problem, one of the staff stopped what they were doing and saw to it that we got served 10 minutes early, which made all... more

We had a mini-holiday to the peak district and stayed at the Cheshire Cheese Inn in Hope for a couple of nights. It was great and I highly recommend it both for eating and for staying. There's a fantastic atmosphere, with heaps of locals who seem to go to this pub every night. But tourists are also very welcome, both... more

We didn't stay here but we did eat and if the owners treat the guest who stay anything like the guests who come to eat, then you are in for a good experience. We had the dog with us so they let us order food outside (which they didn't normally do) and they *gave* us dog food for our lovely... more

David and Anthea gave us a warm welcome on our first visit to the Peak District. We stayed in room 3 which had a separate lounge, giving us plenty of space to relax. The room was very comfortable, clean and linen changed every other day. Breakfast was a joy with David provided a full English Breakfast cooked to our liking.... more

A Year ago I went on a road trip from Surrey England to the Scottish Highlands. So of course, I had to see the Peak District. I didn't pick any of the B&Bs or Hotels, as I was a guest of a British guy that knew his way around. He picked the Cheshire Cheese Inn, mostly for the name, and... more

We stayed at the Cheshire Cheese Inn, Hope from 5th August to the 7th August 2005. We paid a little extra for the larger room (the pub only has 3 rooms - 2 doubles and a single) which has it's own lounge area (complete with single futon for a child if needed) and it was well worth it. The room,... more
