Having read some of the negative reviews I cannot believe they are talking about the Red House Hotel. From the welcoming pot of tea, together with home made cake upon our arrival we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the food was out of this world. The breakfast was to die for and... more

We have just returned from a one week stay at the Red House Country Hotel. We were given a very pleasant room overseeing the gardens and the hills beyond. One criticism on arrival is that we were not offered any assistance with our luggage. The same applied on departure. The hotel is spotless with very pleasant public rooms and restaurant.... more

Hate to be a party pooper but was very disappointed. Thought the Red House was set amid rolling country hills when in fact a mini industrial estate was about 100 yards up the road (i.e. DFS). We were allocated one of the coach houses. Not much light and I felt like the poor relation. Probably would have been happier in... more

In the nine years we have owned the Red House, no-one has ever complained about the situation of the hotel. On the contrary, guests often comment on the wonderful views. Opposite the front of the hotel is a field. To the left of the field is the DFS site, housing a showroom which cannot be seen from the hotel and...

The "tasteful" in the title applies equally to the hotel and the cuisine served there. We chose the Red House from their website, and were completed satisfied by the accomodations and with the food. We stayed 8 nights in late July and never tired of the menu. To begin the evening meal, guests are seated in a drawing room and... more

My Wife and I have just enjoyed a long weekend at "The Red House". It was a rewarding experience which started when we arrived mid afternoon to be greeted by the owner, David who immediately put us at our ease in a kind and professional way. We were offered tea and cake in the lounge which we thankfully accepted. The... more

Lovely country house hotel, excellent service and the food was superb. The breakfasts kept us going all day with lots of home made ingredients. The room we had overlooked the grounds and the countryside and had a balcony to sit out on - room 5, the room only had a rather small shower ensuit with no bath but the view made... more

Friendly family run hotel. The rooms are well furnished and very clean, many with character. The food is of consistent high quality, but will not so rich that a six night stay leaves you screaming for mercy. David Gardiner is a fanatic about quality - home made bread, fresh squeezed orange juice, fabulous smoked fish, great tea and coffee, excellent... more

My company exhibits at the Hillhead Quarry exhibition which comes around every 2 years. We are based in Leicestershire and in previous years I have chosen to drive to the exhibition daily rather than stay in a hotel with colleagues. This year due to entertaining customers at night I decided that staying in a hotel would be a better option.... more

We spent a few days at this hotel and had a lovely time. From the moment we arrived, we felt as if nothing was too much trouble. The main purpose of the stay was a Birthday celebration for my wife. Flowers, champagne and Birthday Cake that I had arranged prior to our visit were all made available exactly as requested.... more

We stayed at this hotel as a late Valentines break - I was really looking forward to it but came away feeling very disappointed and rather hungry. The room was freezing when we arrived as the heating was not on (come on it is February! ) also rather small in size with only a standard size double bed. When we... more

We run a small, privately-owned hotel and we and our staff take a great deal of trouble to try and please our guests. Consequently, we were rather upset to read the review by Traveller 1, London- 24th February. In response, we would like to make the following points. We do not have the heating on during the day when there...
