Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very nice room. Breakfast was excellent. And, the price for the BandB was very reasonable. Would stay here again if ever in the area. Quiet room also. Owner serving breakfast was friendly and efficient.

Great location, short walk into centre. Turn right at the bottom of the drive down a lane then head right at the end of that road. Might need a torch on the way back. Brilliant host. Very accommodating. Gives information on local attractions. Always asks if you want more toast, tea etc. Made us a pot of tea on arrival. Rooms are big and very clean. There’s a hairdryer, tea/coffee facilities in the room. As well as an iron and ironing board. Lots of midge’s in the area so take spray. Would highly recommend.

We had a lovely stay at Buttermilk Lodge. A comfortable room and bathroom which had all we needed. I am not a fan of overhead showers bit that is personal. The breakfast was also very good, a selection of fruits, juices and home made breads and scones and a great variety of cooked items. 5 minutes walk to the town centre.

Buttermilk Lodge is a large B&B/Guesthouse that has a lot of personal touches. Our hosts took very good care of us, and provided some excellent breakfasts, particularly the pancakes and the French toast. Our room was sightly small but was very attractive and well furnished. The room included a large shower. I did have an issue the first morning, where I couldn't get any hot water. Our host determined their plumber had made a repair the prior day and had incorrectly set the timer to turn the hot water back on. For the rest of the stay, we had plenty of hot water. The walk into town took about 10 minutes, with a small hill on the return journey.

We had a lovely one-night stay here as part of our bike trip through Western Ireland. The bed and breakfast is quaint and cozy, and it's a short walk away from the Clifden town center. Our room was clean and comfortable with a more recently renovated bathroom. We did notice that the toilet seat was broken but it didn't bother us much. We appreciated all of the helpful info binders provided in our room which allowed us to go on a wonderful bike route that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. Our breakfast the next morning was delicious. I particularly loved my pancakes, and my husband his smoked salmon and eggs. Caitriona was such a great hostess!

I stayed two nights at the Buttermilk Lodge while on a tour of Ireland. The room was wonderful, large bed and my own private bathroom. The hosts were very kind, and the breakfasts in the morning were very nice. There was a bunch of options to chose from the menu as well as a small buffet with fruits, yogurt, pastries. It was a bit of a walk to town, about 5-10 minutes. Getting to town was easy as it was down hill, but the walk back up from town was a bit steep, though no problem at all. If I find myself in Clifden again, I will gladly return to the Buttermilk Lodge!

Staying at Buttermilk was a great experience. The hosts have thought of everything. There is even a small box of sewing notions in the room for small repairs needed along a journey. The location seems away from town but there’s a shorter path than it appears so the walk is about 5 minutes. I’m glad we were there because it is so quiet. The bed was extremely comfortable and it was easy to get a good night’s sleep. The owners cook up and serve with care a great Irish breakfast and daily specials are available too. I highly recommend this guest house when staying in the Clifden area.
