My husband and I absolutely adored Helen and the lovely Farmhouse. It was sparkling clean, quiet and relaxing. Our host, Helen, lit a turf fire immediately when we arrived in the cold and rain. She then fetched fresh hot tea, rhubarb tart with freshly whipped cream. The food was out of this world. This is a MUST STAY place if... More

Staying here with Helen was a highlight of our trip to Ireland! She is delightful and so hospitable. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and the food was excellent. She even told us how she makes her marvelous scones. it is all you could want in a B and B, and more!

Before we even rang the bell, Helen pulled the door open and greeted us with "Hello ladies!" Helen is an amazing woman who is a great cook, baker and hostess. She had apple tart with home made whipped cream for us when we arrived. ( It was sooo good!) She made some great scones and biscuits while we were there.... More

St. Ruth's was a welcome delight for 3 weary travellers. We were greeted by the ever-accommodating and wonderful Helen, who fed us hot tea and homemade apple pie. I honestly think the place should be renamed St. Helen's!! Our room was cosy, homey, pretty and afforded the most beautiful views of the grounds. I honestly can't recommend this place enough-... Everything you have read about St. Ruth's is true. Great welcome. Excellent facilities. Good advice and local knowledge and Helen gives exact directions. Breakfast was wonderful with much of the ingredients coming from the farm

A very long overdue review. We stayed in March 2012 and found a wonderful hostess in Helen who greeted us with a much appreciated cuppa and fabulous slice of her home-made apple pie and cream, just a lovely touch. Breakfast was great, nothing too much trouble. Accommodation extremely comfortable, a pleasure to stay. Many thanks to the lovely Helen. Mark... More

You can't find a nicer place to stay than here! Helen is wonderful, facility is outstanding in a quiet and lovely setting. Very homelike. Although we were the only ones the last time we stayed and told Helen not to fuss we came down to a Breakfast that was amazing - even smoked salmon! We would rate St. Ruth's as... More

If you are looking for a friendly, clean, and relaxing place to stay in the Irish countryside, this is it. Helen O'Brien couldn't be more welcoming and serves the best in Irish breakfast. We have stayed here as a family on several occasions and traveled extensively in Ireland and Europe, and nowhere have we felt more comfortable.

St. Ruth's is about a ten minute drive from Athlone on a winding country road. Helen, the proprietress, is an absolute bundle of friendly energy. She gave us a few minutes to settle in, then invited us down for a cup of tea and a piece of homemade rhubarb tart with freshly whipped cream from the adjacent family dairy farm.... More

Helen and St. Ruth's are great! The B&B is a wonderful place to stay and Helen could not have been nicer. In fact, our group of 7 brother's, sister's, nieces and nephews were traveling in 2 cars and managed to get "slightly" off course in our attempt to find St. Ruth's. We apparently left our previous nights location with only... More
