People wanting a swish polished modern hotel should look elsewhere, Woodhill House has character in abundance and plenty of old fashioned charm. The exterior of the building is undoubtedly dishevelled but the surrounding scenery here more than makes up for it. The garden rooms are a modern addition to the old house, and the rooms here are very spacious and... more

We held a family reunion at Woodhill. It was a nostalgia trip to bring back memories of Ardara, Dooey, Castlegoland and Portnoo where we had holidayed in the forties. If you're looking for peace, relaxation, a place to wind down and old world charm - this is it. An oasis of green and lavish vegetation on the side of a... more

The food here is so worth the trip - more contemporary than the over-fussy and somewhat old-fashioned French menu at Castle Murray and much cheaper too - here you have absolutely gorgeous country house cooking offering local produce such as fish, lamb and game exquisitely cooked and presented by a truly talented chef - good veggie options too. I agree... more

As regular customers of the Castle Murray and the Harvey’s point, loving good food and fancy restaurants, and living about Ardara, my wife and I wanted a change and try the Woodhill house Hotel as we discovered through the Donegal news that the well known Castle Grove head chef Emmanuel Cohergne has moved to Ardara. Our experience was disappointing!! When... more

Lovely house with lots of warmth and character. The hosts are very friendly and the gardens are beautiful. Ardara is a lovely village and I reccommend eating at Nancy's bar (named after the proprietor of Woodside house and run by her brother.) The rooms are large and comfortable and the balcony view from our room over the garden was great.... more

Absolutely perfect stay in every way. Beautiful house, perfectly tended grounds, and over the top service from John, Nancy, and James (plus the beautiful dogs). Ardara welcomes visitors with open arms, and the surrounding countryside is completely untouched, as well as barren of other tourists. Can't think of anything that would have made the stay better. Can't wait to return. more

Stayed here with Four teenagers and it was great .Teens were not to impressed with the old style rooms in the main house, but we enjoyed the quiet of the coach house.Beautiful gardens, were enjoyed between showers, of those soft Donegal days. The highlight of our stay was the fantastic breakfasts, which catered for all tastes and which have never been surpassed.Next... more

If you're looking for a remote location in wonderful Co. Donegal this one might be for you. We stayed four nights in a large, almost sparten ensuite of a two hundred year old home overlooking the peaceful hills and lush gardens of this rural area. The bed was very comfortable with quality sheets and duvet. We woke to cows and... more

Lovely Country House, great rooms. Very quiet, peaceful and comfortable. Short walk to Ardara where there are many pubs and a couple of eating places. Breakfast excellent and we treated ourselves to the fixed price meal in hotel. Food delicious, service very friendly. Would happily recommend. more

We arrived late in the day, and we were met by the owners' son, James. He showed us to our rooms over the old carriage house. Great for a family or couples traveling together because there are only two rooms on the floor. James carried our luggage to the room and explained what we needed to know about the property.... more
