My parents, my husband and I were all excited to stay at Annestown House. Based on a review in Fodor's it sounded wonderful. After a 5 hour drive to get to the property, we were greeted very warmly by the owners. Unfortunately we were told on arrival that there would be no dinner served that evening and we'd have to go into town to eat. We were the only 4 people staying at the property, by the way. And we had a horrible meal at the restaurant recommended by the owners--rude service and awful food!

The rooms were quaint but the mustiness and the dust was very aggravating to my asthma. The couches and carpeting in the TV room were worn through. We felt as if we sat on it we'd get lost in a cloud of dust.

The beds were comfortable, but we only had a fitted sheet and a satin comforter on the bed. I was not the only one to wonder if the comforters had been washed between patrons. I just like having a sheet between me and any bedspread or comforter--I know...

This is a perfect spot to get away from it all. Stunning location above the cliffs & you can walk directly on to the beach. Lovely old rambling house with very comfortable beds in nicely decorated old fashioned rooms (in a positive sense) . No TVs in rooms which is a great idea. The house is littered with books on every conceivable topic. There is a lovely TV room if you absolutely must. The house has its own full sized billiard table & also a croquet lawn & grass tennis courts in summer. The owners, John & Pippa are delightful & make you welcome in a homely but not intrusive way. They serve an excellent breakfast in a delightful dining room overlooking the front lawns. We shall return.
