The Maltings is a beautiful building in a lovely location. We had missed it last time we were in Birr (and ended up in the hotel with the nightclub - noisy mistake!) so we made sure we stayed there for a night this time. The owner was friendly and very helpful - we had to move rooms because a swarm... more

Great place. We happened upon this place. Beautiful location on a trout river. The owner and I talked about Irish Football. Nice family run establishment. Reasonable price. 80 euros for a double overlooking stream. Nice place to sit and watch the world go by. It was also walking distance to downtown but quiet. more

On our recent trip we were looking for lodging "along the way" to Sligo and Donegal. Thus we found not only the gem of Clonmacnois, but also The Maltings Guesthouse. The guesthouse was everthing others say in the reviews. We especially loved the river views of the breakfast room. Morning breakfast was very special with ducks swimming alongside the windows, while... more

This is a well-run, comfortable B & B with pleasant decor and it is great value. A short walk to restaurants and everything in the town. The setting right by the river and the castle grounds is superb. We enjoyed walking in the treed parkland and the formal gardens of the castle, and the science and engineering museum in the... more

Just back from a visit to Ireland. I had a wonderful stay at the Maltings. Maeve and her husband were the perfect hosts. They went out of their way to make sure I had a comfortable stay. They even called ahead and helped set up reservations for me at a hotel in Waterford. Breakfast was top of the line. If... more

Just back from a gret weekend here - this is a perfect location by the river, very relaxing. Stafff all very friendly, rooms spotless. There was a mix up on our booking and instead of the single rooms that we booked we ended up with huge family rooms overlooking the river at no extra cost. Can't fault anything - will... more

I have stayed at the Maltings before and always found it to be a wonderful experience. B&B prices, hotel features. My single room was in fact a triple, and I was more than happy with it. Until bedtime. The second night was awful. My room was above the bar area and they were throwing a birthday party. Its was pretty... more

This B&B feels more like a small hotel, with immaculately clean and spacious rooms and bathrooms. Breakfast was delicious with scones and had we not booked accommodation elsewhere, we may have asked to stay for another night! Birr castle is just next door with a nice science museum and beautiful gardens. Birr itself has good dinner options for Wednesdays as... more

My Husband and I stayed 1 night here and really enjoyed it. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant, had our few drinks afterwards all under one roof and in a peaceful setting by a river. Staff were really nice and helpful, even though very busy in the restaurant. Our room was very big, ensuite with bath/shower. Very clean.... more
