I have mixed feelings about this place...Our group stayed here for 3 days and enjoyed the great hospitality from the exceptional staff...from the booking to the the last dinner we were very happy with the warm, kind service ...Zsofi, Kata es Melitta thank you! We also loved the quirky surroundings, actually I choose the place because it was so different from the other places and believed the website pictures...well reality was different.. I was worried that the ceiling will fall down in the dining room...the garden was totally neglected...the outside furniture was weather worn and missing. The room was spacious and the main bed was great but the second bed was shoved next to a fridge which was so noisy and rattled next to my ear, so had to unplug for the night if we wanted to sleep....the bath-tub was divine but could only fill it half as there was not enough hot water... We had dinners there and the food was fantastic ( thank you Chef Lajos!) So overall we had a good time , all of the staff are tried to accommodate all our wishes and it was not their fault that the owners let the place run down... Still it was very expensive compared with other places in the area. We heard that there was an owner change and soon they will make the place better. Lets hope that....…

It is obvious that the restaurant had its golden ages a while ago. When we came around 8 PM the parking was almost empty and it was obvious that there were no too many people there. From the moment I stepped in I realized that the place has something authentic to offer. Interior is full of old pieces of furniture and pictures of different styles randomly hung on the wall. There were three rooms available, two for dining and one room with sofas designed for wine tasting and listening the music. I could easily see myself ending up there after the dinner. The garden didn't have anything of its previous glory. My friend was surprised and he said that it used to be a very popular place. Reading the other reviews I can see how people had obviously high expectations. Maybe what they found wasn't what they expected but I must say I really and truly enjoyed the place. the furniture is somewhat old, but service was OK. The wines we tried were amazing and the food was very good - the cold cheese plate, rabbit leg and the game's stew. As a desert we had a home made chocolate cake, fresh and warm and really nice pancakes. The classical music in the background was just an additional spice to this atmosphere and it felt like every moment one of the famous writers or painters could walk by. So, if you look for something authentic I would warmly recommend it. You will not get the 5-star service nor glamour. It is maybe a bit older and not that shiny as it used to be but it had something nice and charming in itself. Go for a glass of wine and if you don't like it, you can always leave, but give it a try ;) …

To be hosted by a French family in a remote village in east Hungary - not the first thing you'd expect in Tolcsva. But that's exactly what makes this place so special. Pascal, the owner of this place, is a wonderfully eccentric man who can make the most delectable dishes (try the duck - I'd go back just for that), and will even join you for a post-dinner discussion over wine if you're lucky. The rooms are clean, and the place is walkable distance from the famous local vineyard - Oremus. If you have a few days at hand for a more relaxing holiday, ask Pascal to get one of his friends to drive you around the village - more vineyards, famous restaurants, and even a traditional barrel maker! Little Tolscva has more to offer than one would imagine, and Os Kajan is as good a home as can be when you're there.…

We were told that this is a good place to eat in the Tokaj region. We were a populous company and made reservation, although we were the only guests for the evening. We were told that it is a family restaurant run by a french guy who lives there over 20 years. We ordered the food before. Most of us had received our orders already cold. At the time of payment ( all couples payed separately) the owner was very unprofessional, and rather rude.

We visited the restaurant after being at Anyukam mondta in Encs the day before. Both of them received high ratings in the Gault&Millau 2012 guide so we tried also this one. The place is OK, rustic style. The food experience was mixed. The fatty goose liver was nice but not excellent, the starter of the degustation menu was very good. The chicken soup was salty and not warm enough. The main dishes were OK, with the forest mushroom trout being very good. The potatoes were made with goose fat, but they were not crisp (maybe too old). The price/performance ratio is bad, we payed nearly 50% more than at Anyukam mondta.

The restaurant was recommended by friends with a warning though that the place is not what it used to be.Had a very unpleasant experience. All the food we sected(soup, main dish, dessert)was very disappointing. One can get the same in any roadside restaurant at half price. The table was dirty, napkins missing.Restroom is smelly..And most of their guests have to travel 20-40 km to get there...Think twice before going there.

We visited Tokaj Oremus vinery (http://www.tokajoremus.com/), learned how the famous Oremus Aszu is prepared, tasted Aszu, Szamorodni, Late Harvest. Brilliant visit! But after that, we were hungry and decided to visit Os Kajan Restaurant. And it was a terrible experience... The first step was good enough - the restaurant is in old farm building, with old-fashioned furnitures, with many tables and a lot of space. The waitress tried to be helpful (even if she hardly spoke english ;-). We were hungry enough, to eat any food that we could obtain. But this food was underdone, potatoes only "visited" boiled water, meat was hard and stunk, salad wasn't better. I told about it to the French owner - but he started to persuade all of us, that it is "good" and "fresh". He even started to shout at us, that we are not right, that he prepared the meat yesterday (I was always sure that the meat should be prepared on the same day as it is served ;-). We left the food partially consumed (hunger was stronger), paid the bill - and run away. I visited many restaurants, many times, in many countries - but I have never experienced such a treatment. Keep away from this place. Tokaj city is close enough to drive there and find much better restaurant.…

I truly cannot rave enough about what a gem Os Kajan is. Did not have the chance to stay there, but had a magnificent dinner in the garden. The food was top-notch (had a delicious rabbit), great wine selection, the owner/chef and the servers were incredibly friendly and interesting, and the home itself is uniquely decorated with ecclectic art (could not stop wandering around in between courses). Was a dining experience unlike any other I've had (felt like eating fantastic, imaginative food in my dream backyard), and was one of my fondest memories of my trip to Hungary. Do not miss this if you are visiting Tokaj.

It is a restarurant that you must visit one time, it is so special and so different from other restaurants in Hungary. French style meals, good service in this friendly little village.
