First, I need to apologize for the tardiness of this review. We stayed at Bessiestown in early August for 4 nights. My excuse is it was the weekend before relocating from the UK to the US. We are only just now not living out of suitcases; and are currently in a new home with 80% of the unpacking done. We... More

We were in Bessie Town in the summer for a family get-together - 3 generations of our family, 24 of us in total... Our family have been regular Bessie Town visitors for so many years. As always Margaret, Jacky, Ann & Maria made us all feel welcome. The food was perfect both dinners and breakfast. We were even able to... More

We were doing family history in the area and found this lovely b and b. Margaret and Jack (the owners) were very friendly, and made us feel very much at home, as did the rest of their family. The home cooked meals were delicious. We had the evening meal, it was really well presented, and a vegetarian option was no... More

We were looking for a couple of quiet days away and this is what we got. The guest house is just short of the english/scottish border in a tranquil and peaceful location. The accomodation itself was excellent in all ways from the friendliness of the owners, the actual room itself (we got given a suite which was most comfortable) not... More

Without time to write a proper review, suffice it to say we were looked after royally, and thoroughly enjoyed the spacious cottage and the delicious cuisine. Jack and Margaret (the owners) were happy to accommodate our somewhat fussy dietary requirements, and our children were made to feel very welcome in the quite formal restaurant setting, which makes a lovely change.... If travelling anywhere in this area (eg. Carlisle, Gretna Green, Longtown) this is the place to stay. The rooms are lovely (I think we lucked out and were given a suite for B and B price, as it was the last room available - but all the rooms seemed lovely). The hosts are very accommodating and the dinner and breakfast... More

After a frantic two days in the Highlands, how wonderful to stay at the amazing Bessiestown and wind down a little. Everything we could possibly wish for was provided in the fabulous and luxurious accommodation. A wonderfully good humoured welcome preceded superbly cooked breakfasts and evening meal. We didn't have a chance to sample the inviting swimming pool as we... More

As a couple we stayed for a two-night break. Our welcome from Margaret and Jack was lovely. The room was so comfortable, spotlessly clean, and well furnished. The tea tray was well stocked with milk in the fridge and bottle of water - most appreciated. The evening meals were superb, as were the cooked and cold breakfasts - and Jack's... More

If you’re looking for an overnight stopover on the way to/from Scotland, this is a great place to stay – very comfortable and relaxing. It’s a bit off the beaten track but a satnav or good map will get you there quite easily (it’s about 20 minutes from the M74/M6). Alternatively spend a few nights there. It’s a good centre... More
