First impression: the musty smell of damp, 'rustic' 1950/60s furniture (and not in the hip cool retro way) and rusted, salt-sprayed doors. Second impression: our entire family (husband and two teenage daughters) loved this place, and it remains in our memory one of the favourite parts of our Avalon Peninsula tour. Why, you might ask? Well, first it is on... More

The location is great, right on the ocean. Our room left a lot to be desired. We paid for a fridge and stove; they were not functioning whatsoever. We resorted to buying ice and using the sink to keep stuff cold. The water is brown. I wasn't sure if we should be using it even to brush our teeth. When... More

Wonderful views and close to the cape reserve. Our room was a two bedroom unit in the motel. It was fine but certainly needed some maintenance. The owners were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the gannets. By the way the the walk to the reserve was easy but it certainly takes 30 minutes or so. The restaurants in the area... More

Not what a Texan would call a resort! However, absolutely best location for the reserve. We opted for a two bedroom cabin instead of motel unit. Cabin was clean with small kitchen and bath. Beds need to be replaced - a bit mushy. Reason for stay was to see and photograph Gannet's. Soooo foggy could not get any decent pics... More

We spent two nights at this property while we visted Cape St. Mary's Reserve. The scenery is spectacular, it's perched right on the shore up on a cliff - beautiful ocean views and sunset. The property is very well maintained, and my 8 and 4 year olds really enjoyed the mini-golf, rocky beach, swingset, and room to run and play.... More

The accommodations are basic and certainly not " resort" but this motel is so well located it doesn't matter. It is right on the beach and has picnic tables and grills for use. There is a stairway down to the beach which had the most interesting rocks. We ordered crab claws and brought them back for dinner and couldn't have... More

Bird Island Resort is a comfortable stay. Not suitable for honeymooners, but ideal for bird photographers or anyone wanting to stay 1-2 nights. The location is ideal for a stop before going to Cape St, Mary's Reserve. It is beside the ocean. Great views and if you are lucky you will see some seals. Beautiful purple stones and rocks complement... More

This motel is one of the few places to stay overnight near Cape St. Mary's. The owners are very friendly and accomodating. We had a double efficiency unit - two bedrooms, kitchenette, very small sitting area. The unit was clean but smelled a bit musty. Beds were o.k. Its all a bit worn down. The efficiency units all share a... More

When my husband and I arrived at the lobby of Bird Island Resort, a flyer at the lobby desk instructed guests to check in at Manning's convenience store at the front of the motel. The Manning family owns both. We were warmly greeted by two staff people and were given a free upgrade to a larger efficiency unit, which was... More
