Such an enchanting place - a hotel on a working farm that dates back to the 1600s, and has all boxes ticked to deserve my five star rating: genuinely welcoming and hospitable hosts, charming individually decorated rooms/cabins, superb food prepared using largely local ingredients (best meals we had on our trip, by a mile), and a picturesque setting in a... We were warmly welcome and shown to our suite in a cute doll house style cabin. It was a little suite, antique decoration and comfortable sofa and bed. Great quality bedding, all the amenities possible in a shower bathroom, bathrobe and slippers. It even had old family pictures which were really interested and showed the local culture. We really appreciated... More

This lovely Norwegian heritage accommodation lived up to all my dreams of what Norway can offer. It was everything I had wished for and more. My husband's family comes from Norway but it has taken me 36 years to get there. This was the first place we stayed and it was well worth the wait. I loved the clean, cosy,... More

A really unique small hotel in a beautiful location with friendly service. The collection of historical wooden buildings are very cosy and welcoming. We stayed in the 'loft' which is truly authentic; reached by climbing a narrow staircase with huge beams that stretch across the ceiling and tiny windows which look onto the turbulent green river outside. The toilet is... More

Nordre Ekre is one of the heritage farm stays in the Heidal region. This is a very special, interesting and wonderful experience to visit this B&B. The B&B is very cosy and family friendly, though it would be better to have heating inside the toilet. The dinner prepared by the host is very good. Their breakfast is equally very impressive... We stayed here for our visit to "Peer Gynt"-theatre at Gålå. We had heard a lot of this place, and all our expectations were satisfied! Service minded staff and beautiful buildings. The rooms were nice, also with bathrobes, which made the impression more exclusive. We had a 3 course dinner at the main house, and the food is gourmet! Wine... More

For anyone wanting to spend the night in a authentic historical building (but with modern comfort), this is a perfect place to stay. Situated in beautiful Heidal, and close to river Sjoa, famous for rafting. Some noise from the river, but not too bad. The family-run farm hotel has a friendly, cozy atmosphere, and the dining room is intimate and... More

If you'd like to stay at a historical place with a lot of character, you could do so much worse than Nordre Ekre. This farm hotel is run by a husband and wife team, who'll greet you by shaking your hand and introducing themselves to you. This is the kind of place this is: it's atmospheric and really pleasant. Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, we highly appreciate your feedback. For those who wonder if there are bathrooms in every room: There is, however one of our rooms, “the attic” in a 18th century storehouse, has got a private bathroom in the open air hallway. This hallway is typical for these old storehouses. The rest... More

Amazing place in Heidal, Norway. Well-kept traditional wooden buildings, hospitable owners and amazing food. Even has a small store, selling local products including their own jam in different varieties.
