Hotel of character, perfectly integrated into an oasis of over 40 hectares, opened on a fantastic panorama, it is the starting point for excursions in the massif of Isalo. Le Relais de la Reine is located in the South West of Madagascar, in border of the Massif de l'Isalo. It is the country of Bara, semi-nomadic people, traveling with their herds of Zébus in a fabulous Western decor. Despite its geographic isolation, access to the Relais de la Reine is easy, using the National 7, linking Antananarivo to Toliara, via Antsirabe and Fianarantsoa. This road, the most touristic of Madagascar, provides a permanent scenery. The hotel is located near the village of Ranohira, 700 km from Antananarivo by road.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Gorgeous and classy hotel in a stunning setting. Hidden away from the road in a very peaceful spot surrounded by the rocks of the Isalo National Park. Bungalow accommodation scattered across well manicured grounds. Rooms very comfortable and well furnished. Nice bathroom if slightly small. Everything very clean. Restaurant is excellent - mix of Malagasy and European cuisine. Staff excellent, polite, friendly and helpful, and speak good English. The owner made a point of talking to all the guests at dinner. Wifi in main building only (restaurant/reception/bar). Nice fireplace in centre of dining room and the Bar serves nice cocktails. One of the best hotels in the country, if not the best. Wish we could have stayed longer.

This hotel is a real oasis in the wilderness. The gardens are beautiful, the rooms are clean, well appointed, each with it's own little patio and furniture. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is amazing. I would definitely recommend staying here.

We had some great hotels in Madagascar but this was our very favourite. It's beautifully designed so that it blends in with the stunning scenery. The grounds are gorgeous, packed full of beautiful plants, bird-life and places to watch incredible sunsets from. Rooms are cleverly laid out so that you have space, privacy and your own patio area, and they are super-clean and comfortable, with hot water, good showers, and 24-hour electricity (I saw a couple of reviews from previous years suggesting it switched off at 11pm - this doesn't seem to be the case anymore). We found the staff really kind and helpful, and they all seemed really proud of working there - keen to tell us about the surroundings and things we could do (without pushing us into additional purchases). The cocktails at the bar were great, the food was delicious - especially the Malagasy cuisine - and they also had a lovely gift shop with quality souvenirs. On our final night, we met the manager, and it was wonderful to hear about this family business and the way it benefits the local community. It's on the pricier side of hotels in Madagascar (on a par with Tana), but it's still a bargain compared to the UK, and there is a noticeable step up in quality. Our only regret is that we weren't there long enough to enjoy everything on offer - the pool, essential oil workshop and horse riding will have to wait for next time! Isalo was one of the most magical places we visited in Madagascar, enhanced by a magical hotel.

amazing hotel - for my birthday they baked me the biggest cake! and unfortunately I got really sick ( not hotel related) they were so kind and looked after me so well. we ended up staying 4 nights instead of 2 and the room was the best we stayed in in Madagascar. Wonderful staff, wonderful rooms, wonderful grounds! My husband did some of the walks that are on the hotel grounds and the bird life he saw was the most in all of Madagascar.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. It's set in beautiful scenery -- and very close to the hiking trails and activities in Isalo National Park. We ate outside every night so we could watch the sunset over the mountains. The food was excellent (probably the best hotel food we had during our trip) and the staff were very attentive. The price is also pretty reasonable during the off-season. Would absolutely come back.

This hotel, with its exquisitely-coloured flowers standing out against the huge and fascinating rock-faces, was absolutely stunning. I also loved hiking into the canyons all by myself in the early morning and late evenings. For the rest, I cannot add anything more to the rave reviews by other Tripadvisor writers other than our room number for those people who like privacy. We were in room #33 which faced a huge rock that indeed looked just like a queen as the name of the hotel suggests. In addition people rarely walked past our patio and it could not be seen from any of the walkways.

A magical place out of time. Our only regret : Not to have been able to spend more time in this out of time location, akin to some extent to an Asian caravanserai. Stopped there on the mythical RN7 on our way to Tulear. Will definitely return for an extended stay !

This lodge is a great option if you’re looking for a hotel between the rocks that is close to Isalo National Park. This eco-friendly hotel offers everything you need after a tough hike. They have huge and really spacious rooms and cottages with a comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. I also loved our quiet backyard with views of the rocks. I stayed here for only one night, but I wish I had more time to spend in this beautiful luxury hotel. Le Relais de la Reine also offers different sport and leisure activities to their hotel guests. If I had more time I definitely wanted to join Via Ferrata (rock climbing), but because of multiple-day trekking in the park I didn't have enough time. On top of that you can spoil yourself with a facial or massage at their professional therapy centre for beauty and massage. After dinner we went to their spa and I enjoyed the massage very much! The service and kindness of the staff is amazing, very friendly and helpful. I loved their breakfast and diner! Their relaxing pool surrounded by the Isalo rocks is amazing! I would definitely stay here again in the future and highly recommend this place to others! It's one of the most beautiful places I've stayed during my trip through Madagascar.

This hotel is amazing. It's like a 15th-century French chateau dropped into the middle of the remote & beautiful Madagascar wilderness. The attention to detail in building & decorating is incredible - really, the owners of this property thought of everything, & the property integrates into the surrounding landscape so beautifully. We arrived on Bastille Day & were treated to a fun evening of dancing, drinks & appetizers. The next night we enjoyed cocktails & snacks out on the plateau, viewing the sunset from beanbag chairs, everything laid out by the staff. This was my favorite hotel in Madagascar, I would recommend it to anyone visiting the country.
