When visiting Norway we took a trip to Geilo for 2 nights of skiing and relaxation. After looking at the main resorts in Geilo, we stumbled upon the Lia. It was significantly cheaper ($100 US). However, it is about 15 minutes drive outside the town, and while very scenic is is also quite remote. The common areas were rustic and felt like traditional ski lodges, but the rooms were pretty dated and not exactly the cleanest. The owners were hospitable and willing to transport to/from the train station as well as the ski mountain for a minimal fee ($5 US). Continental breakfast was complimentary and the restaurant offered good dinners for reasonable prices. Another nice surprise was that the Lia offered ski rentals at fairly inexpensive rates. Overall it was a modest accommodation in an expensive area. more
