You can walk around and admire the surroundings. Very friendly staff. You get a private wine tasting with a tour of wine cellars. A wonderful meal with wine for 30 euros in the hotel restaurant - do not miss! This star meal for a very modest fee. Wine is unlimited.

This place has it all--wonderful, helpful staff; comfortable bedrooms with glorious views; large common living areas; great wine; proximity to the Duoro river for boat trips and to other wineries and a genius, young chef. A very comfortable Casa (mansion house) on the Quinta do Portal estate. The house is traditional and very well appointed, with swimming pool, wifi, self service wine bar, and lots of spaces to rest in. Casa das Pipas (on the Quinta do Portal Estate) isn't exactly easy to find but it's well worth the trip.
