Six of our family went there for a meal last night. We all had something different and all emptied our plates AND had dessert which is unheard of. It has a friendly atmosphere and the staff are polite and helpful. Definitely one of the best venues we've been to.

Great pub - always something happening (mostly spontaneous and funny!), great beer and food and quality accomodation. What more can I say? MAD pub of the year again! Apparently I have to use 200 words so DRINK MORE BEER!

Stayed for one night with friends after attending a wedding at the nearby golf club . Fortunately for us they had no rooms available and recommended The Prince of Wales. It is a lovely friendly pub and the accommodation was spotlessly clean. We really enjoyed our stay especially the large full English!! We would definitely go back.

Just stayed here for a couple of nights to attend a wedding nearby. What a find! We were made to feel really welcome by everyone, including the locals! It's such a friendly pub, the food is brilliant and, according to my husband, the beer is great. Nearly had a disaster as we were about to leave as my OH lost... More

This place is a must if you're staying near Chelmsford. My review is very simple: - Great Dinner Menu ( if you're lucky enough to stay on a pizza night, where they are cooked in a wood fired oven in the pub, then you're in for a treat) - Great Beer, a wide range of real ales - Great service... We stayed for one night at The Prince of Wales in early January as we were attending a wedding reception at the nearby golf and country club. We checked in on our way to the wedding reception from the church. We were in a bit of a hurry and the young lady very quickly gave me the keys to our... More

Have stayed in all of the 4 rooms on different occasions. They are spacious, modern and very comfortable. Good value too. The pub is lovely, good food and an abundance of real ales, Belgian beers, and ciders. Rob the landlord is a football fan, but the pub is not a sports bar. No tv, pool table or darts. Just lively... Four of us visited for a meal and drink. It was a bit of a squeeze in there. Good ales and food. After the food, we sat outside which was nice. Friendly staff. Old building. Good parking. Out of the way location makes it a quiet area.

I have never stayed in the new hotel rooms so cannot comment on those but have been to the pub many times, the beers are excellent as well as the food. The menu is simple but there are always specials on which change often depending on what time of the season it is, the people are always very friendly and... More

Just stayed here for 4 nights. Rooms are clean and functional, comfortable and set back a little bit from the pub, so noise is not an issue. Nothing bad to say to be honest.....friendly staff, food was great and I never got a chance to taste the beer! Great spot for a weekend
