The very name of this exquisitely restored and noble 15th-century manor house evokes a sense of romance and adventure as profound as the Spanish Golden Age itself. The term "Santiscal" comes from a Roman country villa located in the grounds of the Hacienda that was discovered in the late nineteenth century.Story has it there was once a knight called Juan de Armario. In 1485, when Ronda was laid to siege by the Christians, he was the first to enter the mine where the moors kept all their supplies and died in the venture. As a reward for his bravery, the King granted the knight’s sons five estates at the foot of the Sierra del Santiscal mountain range, where they built what would become the family residence, today called “Hacienda El Santiscal”. This beautiful fortified building has magnificent views to the Lake and its Nature Park thanks to its strategic location. You can now enjoy it for yourself. Our countryside property is located in Arcos de la Frontera, a historic city, capital of the Route of the "Pueblos Blancos" of Cádiz (White Villages), near the Nature Park of Grazalema, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.Arcos de la Frontera, declared a Historical Monument in 1962, is one of the prettiest towns in Spain, perched on a high rock from which hung a multitude of white houses together with a medieval castle that is testimony to the magnificent past of this romantic and legendary town which belonged to the Arab court of Medina Sidonia.Today, Hacienda El Santiscal, is a unique accomodation that has maintained the flavor of yesteryear in its walls with the conforts of today, without losing the charm of the old manor houses, as has successfully adapted to the new times in order to become a green hotel, as they credited the two quality labels obtained in 2011, the spanish "Parque Natural de Andalucía" y the european one "ECEAT".

Wonderful people! Awesome breakfast with a View. We are visiting from Miami and truly liked this rustic 500 years historic hotel. However, is far from Arcos town. Great air conditioning (although it briefly stopped in middle of night). Very clean well put bathroom.

Beautiful Hacienda, very well decorated, cozy and clean. A small pool overlooking the landscape is just perfect. Our room was nice, maybe not lit enough for Spanish liking. Comfortable bed and good shower. Personnel was very attentive, yet it bothered us arriving towards 7p.m. and being too late to have dinner, although we finally managed to "qualify" for dinner. Be aware you need to book dinner at least two hours before, and dinner is very early for Spanish standards. Dinner and breakfast are served in a porch overlooking the pool and the fields, yet not as cozy as the rest of the Hacienda. Very good breakfast and fair dinner. Personnel leaves too early the Hacienda, so if you want to have a drink you'd better hurry. 14 EUR for a I-don't-know-what gin and tonic, far too poorly prepared is not acceptable. 8 EUR would have been a fair price. Mostly foreign tourists. worth the stay anyhow.

We had a most enjoyable week here at the end of February. Luckily the weather was warm and dry. Our room had a balcony, but we didn't get much sun on it due to the time of year. Breakfasts were ample and we loved the orange juice from oranges in the garden. We ate in 4 or 5 times and the food, especially the fish, was excellent. The chef/owner was very good. There was little choice, however, especially with dessert, but we knew this before coming and it was fine. Our room was rather cold, as was the whole hotel, after dark which was as expected. However the log fire in the lounge was lit a couple of times. This place was in a very quiet neighbourhood but only a few minutes from Arcos. There is a supermarket and pharmacy nearby plus several restaurants. Be careful not to be seen consuming your own drinks in the hotel!

Thanks a lot for your opinion and score. You can consume your own drinks at the hotel but in your own room not in the public areas. The time you came as winter , it was a bit shilly but if we light the fire in the living as we did some times, becomes better and nice. Regards

Really enjoyed our stay at this traditional family run B&B set in beautiful countryside close to Arcos de la Frontera. Our rooms were comfortable, the breakfast with local and home made products was really enjoyable. Although primarily a B&B we also enjoyed a pre-ordered dinner every night, cooked by Hussain and recommend trying his special rice recipe. As well as visiting nearby Arcos de la Frontera, we particularly enjoyed visiting the Parque Grazalema and completing a walk surrounded by the beautiful mountain scenery.

The Hacienda is situated in a lovely quiet area, however you do have to get a taxi if you want to find bars/restaurants in Arcos, driving there is not recommended. Rooms are decorated in a traditional Hacienda way which may not be to everyone’s taste. Breakfast good and served in a lovely location overlooking the pool area and surrounding countryside.

Thank you very much for your opinion that we value. We take note and we will do everything in our hand to improve, however we think that giving our guests the opportunity to enjoy true antiques inside the house and even if it is not to everyone's taste, it is something unique that otherwise only they could be seen in antique shops or museums. We hope that these pieces will really be appreciated by most of our guests. Thanks again

We were booked in the Hacienda by our travel agent since there is no way I would drive in Arcos itself. One Way In and One Way out and very narrow streets for an American driver. This place is difficult to find if you use your GPS. We had to ask directions 3 times before we got correct road. The manager stated on their website, it has directions but I just checked and couldn't fine any. The place is beautiful, well kept, clean with staff that cares. When we checked in we asked manager to recommend taxi, she stated festival was that week-end and she wouldn't park or drive there because it will be very busy. The rooms are on the second floor of a very old Hacienda so you will need to carry your bags. They offered help but we did our own. The room was clean, AC worked great, Wi-Fi worked, bathroom a little small but okay. We took a taxi and did Arcos (note many places close down from 2 pm to 4:30 pm so you may not see much then. On coming back, we order a Frexinet Cava and they didn't have so they asked if we would do a J Saum. We did and was served the bottle along with a small plate of mixed nuts and crackers. We noted the Cava had a urine color and was bitter/vinegary. We could and should have returned the bottle but didn't since we weren't certain what it should taste like. As drinking it my wife mentioned that the nuts in the snack were old/rancid so she didn't eat any after that. The next morning we had a very nice breakfast- only problem there was a fruit mixture with walnuts and and apple pastry. The walnuts tasted old and the pastry was stale. Upon leaving we told manager that she may want to check her Cava since it was old. She mentioned that Spanish don't drink Cava only Brits and Americans. An American had a bottle the night before and didn't complain. May not have been same type. I told her, we knew that we could have returned bottle but I was concerned that the Hotel wasn't either storing/rotating stock. I was going to pay for the bottle anyway but she seemed to think that I was trying to get it free. Suggestion to Hotel, check you stock and rotate it. If it means throwing it out, do so.

Dear Guest, We are sorry that you had these inconveniences with our services. At no time do we think that you would not want to pay the bottle of cava, I just explained that it is a wine that is not usually spent much in our hotel and that is why we have few units for sale. All bottles are kept cold and lying down which is the correct way to keep it. The Catalan brut cava that you took is quite strong so it may appear darker in color and the bouquet in the mouth is sour. There are others more fruity and lighter like the one you asked for in the first place, which is the one that sells the most, so there was no left. The nuts and the breakfast pastries were fresh, since in these products we have a lot of expense and they are replenished frequently, although we feel that they do not like it. Cordial greetings

The hotel is old but nice and quiet. The staff is very nice. We had breakfast here at the Santiscal since it’s very rural and it turned out to be very good. They put cheese and tomatoes on the table and bread and we each got a small yogurt with berries. They made us scrambled eggs and there was coffee and tea and home made jellies on a table. One night up having sandwiches downstairs for late dinner (salmon/lox and white asparagus). Very good. There is a nice lounge downstairs but we didn’t use it because it was too cold since they keep the door open (which is strange).Too bad there was no desk or place to work and, for us, the bed was too hard.

Thank you very much for your opinion which we will take notice to try to improve services. Breakfast is all home made or for local producers. You have in table cheese and tomatoes, pure olive oil and honey from the nearby mountains, home made yogurt and confiture. Also everyday we serveeggs from our finca and some days also spanish cured ham. About lounge as you could see is with a fire place ready to be lighted, but being May and most of the guests as you all where in the swimming pool during the day and also with summer clothes, we thought that it is not cold to have heaters or lighted the chimnney. If you just tell anyone in the staff you were cold, we could it inmediately. you have plenty space in the lobby, bar or living to work. All our mattresses are 14 cm viscoelastic. of thickness with a topco of visco also of 3 cms. Anyhow, we are very gratefull to receive your comentaries. Regards
