This hotel charged us $299 night for a very outdated room that wasn't even very clean. My son climbed into bed and their was sand and hair in the bed. The room was not even maintained well. The window would not close and lock and things needed fixing. The staff was indifferent. When I checked out, she hardly said a... more

We stayed in a Family Room at the beginning of September. The redwood shaded location, pool and access to hikes were great. Nice to have a restaurant on site, and we enjoyed the food. Not inexpensive, but I suspect that the few places to eat in Big Sur are not that different in price. It was very hot (and a... more

After travelling up the PCH #1 from LA ands San Luis Obispo - it was nice to stay in this forested area at Big Sur Lodge. Our cabin (which was really a row of 5-6 adjoining rooms) was adequate and rustic with no phones, TV, etc. This was a nice effect, and a change from LA. We had dinner at... more

We have stayed at the lodge two times in the past. The first time was as advertised, rustic. Then the second time we found the place had been re-done. This time we found the place very run down. We spent more for a room here than at an ocean front room in Monterey. To say the least we were disappointed.... more

Dislikes: There are no televisions or phones in the rooms. The rooms were very noisy and there were unauthorized swimmers in the pool area that kept us up till after 1:00 AM. Since there was no phone we had to drive down to the front desk to complain but the girl there was unable to get the people at the... more

We have enjoyed the Big Sur Lodge many times for years. I am going on 70 and back in the days when our kids were in diapers in the 60's we would always have dinner there on the day we arrived in the Park then again on our last night of camping. During our stay we would always stop for... more

My wife and I satyed here 2 nights and thought the state park provided great accomendations and a well kept park. Our room was nicely furnished and had ample room for two. The deck on the backside, with chairs and table, was a nice suprise. If you enjoy being outdoors and what to get away to relax, this is your... more

Staff works hard. I love all the bad reviews only because I too wish people would stay away from Big Sur to make it less crowded. However, these people are running a hotel in a remote location which in itself is a challenge but additionally so as conditions vary greatly from day to day and season to season in Big... more

We stayed here in October last Fall, and were pleasantly surprised to see almost no after-effects from last Summer's big fires in the area. That concerned us on our way out to the Coast for our two-week vacation. We spent 2-days/3-nights here and were very satisfied with our accommodations. It's not like a big city Hilton, of course, but we... more

Big Sur Lodge is not for those looking for all the plush amenities of a real hotel. It is, after all, within a state park, and similar to camping, except with a roof, walls, a fireplace (in some rooms) and a skylight. We've stayed there 4 times, for the Big Sur Marathon, and if you know what to expect ,... more
