Everything is ridiculously overpriced in Big Sur, especially these cabins from at least the 1950's. They are in a charming, quiet spot along the Big Sur River, next to Highway 1, but quiet. The floor tilts, and there is no insulation (a wall heater had to run full time to heat #5 in the summer), but the bed was comfortable... More

We recently stayed in Cabin 8 for a couple of nights on our trip down the California coast. It was a great option for families and our kids loved this place much more than any of the pricier hotels we stayed at on our trip. The cabins are situated on the Big Sur river just off Hwy 1. At this... More

My wife & I (and now small baby) have stayed in Cabin 6 (by the river) & 16 (by the road). I would recommend both as very good rustic options for a stay in Big Sur. We've stayed in all the local accommodations in Big Sur, & Ripplewood is definitely one of the best. It's not a 'luxury boutique hotel'... More

We stayed in Cabin 6, right by the Big Sur river and amongst big redwood trees. The cabin has the redwood smell. You can hear a little bit of the running water at night - can be soothing. The cabin is basic, but spacious (1 queen and 1 twin bed), has full kitchen, deck off the river. It is rustic,... More

At first glance, this resort may seem a bit rustic, but it is spotlessly clean and comfortable. There is even a nice diner that serves a good breakfast. We had a comfortable two bedroom cabin. When we first arrived, we noticed that there was a funky musty smell and my friend thought it smelled like gas. The proprietor came to... More

Stay here you'll love the friendly people, breakfast, open fire, river and BEAUTIFUL TREES! We got a flat tyre and the folks were very accommodating - in the whole town. Stay a couple of nights if you can its well worth the drive but drive carefully and not over rocks!

We stayed in cabin 2. The office is only open until 8pm; if you are going to be late call ahead to make arrangements. We were surrounded by beautiful trees and a babbling brook. Our cabin did not have a fireplace inside, but has a fire pit outside. While enjoying the fire pit a skunk came right up to us.... More

We stayed in cabin 12A in April 2013 and were very happy with our stay. The combination general store and check-in in the front prepared us for a cabin that was far more rustic than what we found. We were pleasantly surprised by the cabin, which was clean, had a fridge, a nice shower, and a very comfortable bed. I... More

If you are looking for a fancy place with HD TV, great internet service and a luxury bathtub, this place is NOT for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for a great escape from noisy, congested city life, this is the spot. There are no TVs here. How nice! The internet service is pretty spotty, though you... More

We only stayed on night in a cottage that was well equipped with all you need. It is a nice location in the Forrest, but not as remote as you might think reading some of the reviews and looking at pictures. We stayed in a share cabin which was disturbing to me as we of course heard everything that happened... More
