Big Sur accommodation seems to fall into three basic camps 1) luxurious & expensive (Ventana, Post Ranch etc) 2) "quirky" and cheaper (Deetjen's, Lucia Lodge etc) and 3) camping. Gorda Springs Resort is definitely in the quirky category. I spotted Gorda Springs Resort (it is right on Highway 1) on the way up to Santa Cruz and stayed there for... more

Going by the mixed reviews on this site we decided to take a chance on this resort. Please don't make the same mistake! The rooms were filthy, linen thread bare. We moved a table in the room and could see that the corners has not been touched in 5 years. It was so bad, we ended up sleeping in our... more

Stayed in 'Palm house' and liked it very much. Its very spacious, comes with a guest room and a huge deck with a nice ocean view. Its little too far from Big Sur, but that wasn't an issue for a weekend getaway. Rooms were not clean and had lots of insects around, but I still rate this an 'very good'... more

I read some of the reviews on here and wonder who are the people who expect a five star resort for $200 a night in high season on the Central Coast? Especially the people who just randomly checked in because it was getting dark? My boyfriend had some last-minute work to do in Lucia, so we just headed down without... more

This place is god-awful; I've stayed in Motel 6's that were palatial suites compared to this place and I absolutely agree with the other comments posted about Gorda Springs - the staff are creepy and unhelpful - they looked like they crawled out from under a rock somewhere. The room was disgusting - stained carpet, moldy bathroom, horrible bed that... more

Located in remote area on California Hwy 1. Stay if you must. Needed accommodations but should have kept driving to San Simeon. Rooms need repainting and cleaning. Cobwebs, ants and worn bed coverings. Tile floors dirty and furnishings need replacing. Overpriced at $193.00 pernight. Overpriced restaurant - standard breakfast $12-15. Has general store for snacks and gas fill up. Nice... more

In a country that prides it self on a service culture especially when it comes to food, The Whale Watcher Cafe is a serious low point. I should know, the food service culture in the UK is appalling !!! The staff seem overworked even though the restaurant wasn't packed out, numerous people came in,waited and no one seated them or acknowledged... more

Stayed in the "Palm House" twice. Stick with that one and it will be ok. Don't know about the small rooms above the store seems like they are not so nice from the comments. I like the Lamas and the hike up the mountain. The palm house is just fine - no tv, no phone, no cell, but hot water,... more

We stopped @ the Gorda Springs 'Resort' because it had gotten dark & we no longer wanted to drive on Hwy 1. I don't know about the cabins some people reviewed, but we stayed in a room directly above the 'general store'. The room was filthy with out-dated, stained furniture, musty, stained carpet & a bed that felt like it... more

We didn't stay at Gorda Springs so I can't comment on the sleeping arrangements. However, we were camping north of Gorda at Plaskett Creek Campgrounds which has no shower facilities (or potable water). So, I needed a place for a shower and to do some laundry and Gorda Springs has both. $6 for a shower (pretty clean although the restaurant... more
