We went to Palenque and decided to stay at the El Panchan resort (which is not such a resort you might know from beaches). It has three restaurants (the fourth one, a vegetarian place is closed unfortunately) and two or three different places to stay. Margarita&Ed are offering cabanas and private rooms, we stayed in one of the private rooms.... more

Just returned from a magical week in Chiapas. My son and I spent 3 nights at El Panchan and really enjoyed the vibe. We stayed at Magarita y Ed's and loved it. It was quite hot and we were looking for a room with AC and found one for $35/night. In the morning we'd open the windows and listen to... more

El Panchan, as their website explains, "Was founded in the early eighties by Don Moisés Morales...Moises transformed fourteen acres of land into a place where you can enjoy the wonders of tropical rainforest." El Panchan revolves around a cluster of small communities built to surround two open-air restaurants. These various communities offer a range of accommodation styles, all within the... more

The town of Palenque itself does not have much to offer and El Panchan gives you a lovely retreat in the jungle where you can fall asleep listening to the sounds of the jungle creatures and be just minutes from the Palenque ruins by jumping on the "collectivo" buses that come past every 10 minutes for just $2 per person.... more

I had a wonderful 2-night stay in a cabana at El Panchan in the Chanto's Cabanas section. I found the accommodations clean, with seemingly unlimited hot water in an unmatched setting -- the middle of the jungle just down the road from the ruins. It was a 10 peso collectivo ride into ruins or to town (a few miles away).... more

El Panchan is comprised of a group of places to stay and a restaurant, Don Mucho's, just down the road from the Palenque Ruins. The best place to stay is Margarita and Ed's. Unfortunately, Ed passed away a year or so ago but Margarita is a kind and very helpful woman who maintains nice clean rooms in a unique setting.... more

I stayed in El Panchan for three nights, and I loved it but did have some complaints. The room was cute - I stayed in Rakshitas - but the staff was completely uninterested in doing anything, such as fixing the toilet, and there was no hot water. There is internet, but no phone - you have to go into town... more

We arrived in Palenque with the intention of staying in the city to visit the Mayan ruins, but the heat was unbearable and the city was bland and dirty, So, we decided on a whim to venture into the jungle and stay in El Panchan (we actually checked into a hotel in the city and checked out in 20 minutes... more

We considered staying at this hotel but didn't. We stayed at a hotel in town and but spent an afternoon eatig at the restuarant. The food is o.k. but not outstanding in anyway. We waited about an hour to be served (hamburgers and french fries -- nothing onerous to prepare). Apart from the four of us, there were only five... more

This is absolutely paradise. We stayed in El Panchan for five days and it's great because on one hand there's a cabin with 360 degrees view of beautiful rainforrest; on the other hand there is a very good restaurant with life music every night and with a very nice 'jungle' atmosphere. The pizza's from the woodoven are fantastic. Also, the... more
