Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Castlereagh was a very beautiful hotel. We stayed at the hotel for one night. On our arrival, we were told no facilities for a coffee are available , very disappointing and not very welcoming after a 6 hour flight. We felt the staff were quite miserable and again after an evening out, we thought lets have a little drink in the bar, the bar was closed at 9pm. Our experience at this hotel was very disappointed.

Hotel's Favourite
The hotel front is tucked in the middle of a construction zone. Once inside this is a classic old style hotel. The front office staff were excellent and gave us great advice on putting together an all day excursion including the Congee to Bondi walk followed by lunch in Watson Bay and a return ferry ride. The interior of the hotel room was quiet despite the outside noise. We would definitely stay here again.

The front desk staff was super friendly but everything felt very old and dated. The room was very small compared to other hotel rooms in Sydney. The room walls looked dirty with mis-matched shades of white paint. The elevator shook/bounced all over and felt like it could go out of order at any time. I would not stay at this property again.

Dear Dlabrake, Thank you for your feedback on our heritage listed hotel & building. We are always making improvements, such as a heritage refurbishment of level 9 only in January. We also have completely refurbished prototype rooms . You should definitely stay again and try our newly refurbished Studio Queen, Deluxe Queen or Deluxe King rooms. The feedback has been amazing. Kindest regards Paul Brasch General Manager Castlereagh Boutique Hotel.

Stay here every time when in Sydney. Have made comments of excellence previously. Love the heritage style. Rooms adequate. Have also attended meetings and special events here. Centrally placed for theatre and library. . Unfortunately no forward hint when booking this time that work directly below me would begin at 7. Drilling at 8. Bad luck if sleeping. I was attempting Zoom work meetings. Impossible. One should have been advised in advance. 2 of 3 lifts down. Up to 15 people waiting at a time. 10th floor a bit much for me to dash up the stairs. Disappointing this time.

Gorgeous heritage building. The room was old and dated, but clean. Can tell it needs updating but everything worked. The hotel are in the process of renovating, by floor. It was only three nights for myself and my daughter and we shared a boutique double. We were out all day and evening, and with the exception of an afternoon nap, really didn't need anything more! Fridge worked although it was very old! Bed was super comfortable. TV was a good size to view from bed. Air conditioning was very good - essential as it was stinking hot. Staff friendly and helpful. Everything you need in a hotel for a short stay! Very reasonably priced to be right in centre of CBD! Light rail was 5mins walk, St James Station also 5minutes walk. Super convenient.

The hotel itself was very nice with old world charm. The staff, especially the barman were lovely. The rooms were clean, tidy and comfortable and a good location too. Only downside was the parking. You have to park in the Hilton Hotel which is a long walk with bags and clothes.

Tidy, older establishment, somewhat expensive. I would suggest there are better options for less money. It does have 24 Reception, the room we had was small though adequate for a single night. The room and bathroom were clean though the basin spout leaked at the base and water gets on the bench top and floor if you are unaware. Hotel is only a few minutes walk from Hyde Park.

The hotel is a gorgeously presented snap shot in time. A time where elegance prevailed and style was the standard. Spotlessly clean and sparkling. The staff were wonderful and extremely courteous. Comfortable room, heaps of hot water. The only disappointment was that the bar was booked out for a private function, and due to staff shortages the restaurant wasn’t open. Which was why we chose this hotel, as we were meeting friends. It meant going down to the Tatts to eat and have a drink which wasn’t as nice or personal.

Overall a poor experience, rude person on reception, below average and dusty room. Strange credit card process at check-in, receptionist got upset when I asked her to explain this. Same rude receptionist at check-out, was even more rude as there was no-one around. I had to call the lady from the dining room to assist me. The only saving grace was the lovely lady in the dining room and the chef who were super friendly. I wish I had read the reviews in advance. I would not have booked in here.
