This place could be so good but isn't. The location is great but that's about all. Nothing works. The lift , room locks and laundry machines always break. The main problem is not the guests but that people come in off the street to use the facilities and drink goon in the kitchen and hallways. It's the non-guests that wreck... more

Nice room for a hostel but lift not woking to reach it. So walk had to walk up and down two floors every time we had to go out or to the kitchen in the basement. Well after staying in a few other hostels this place was a definite refresher for me. I had booked in the sanctuary, which was clean and for the most part quiet. Kitchen and laundry room was clean. I stayed at the Base Hostel from May to July 2005. The location is great, its near Pyrmont, walking distance to the Aquarium, and Star City, and 5 minute distance to George Street where all the shops, bars and restaurants are.
