Like others have mentioned in their reviews, this is the only accommodation available in the West Mac ranges and this 'resort' is very expensive but fails to deliver anything decent for it. First of all, we made our booking three days before we arrived, but when we got there at 2pm (pre-arranged time) the room wasn't ready and we had... more

We stayed here in July-2009 at the cost of $160. Whilst not expensive for a room necessary it is expensive for Australia - it is expensive for what you get. Unfortunately if you have a day up from Alice to the West Macdonnell ranges - this is your only choice & as they know that they rip you off even... more

This hotel is located in the middle of nowhere. Do not search for another one, the only other solution is the camping of the Hotel! The staff is so nice and the location is so quiet! Rooms are really rustic and you need to save more than usually the water and electricity because they are so far away that nothing... more

We really enjoyed the experience of Glen Helen. Yes, the rooms are small and basic, but are clean. Dont be put off by the toilet or hand basin stains...remember its is Outback Aussie and not a Metropolis! The water here is bore water and highly mineralised, leaving extremely hard-to get-off stains on white porcelain and shower bases. Owners of about... more

Stayed one night in a campervan. Site is situated by the "hotel" and bar, next to the river and gorge. Very little shade, pretty rough site overall. Pool was ok. Restaurant and bar on-site, with views over the river to the gorge. Showers and toilets Ok. Main gripe is prices: fuel was the highest we encountered in a week's touring... more

OK Glen Helen I think is the definition of love it or hate it, and I have to say that it absolutely blew me away, so much so that for reasons I probably can't quite convey or understand it was my favourite place in 3 weeks in Oz. Firstly the setting.. Glen Helen itself is a gorge in the West... more

The positives are the scenery, the outback atmosphere, the friendly staff, the bar and the good food. the negatives are the overall "basic-ness" of the place and the price - clearly being the only place to stay within a 100km area, they can charge the prices they want. That said we had a great time as it made a change... more

The Glen Helen Resort is located in an absolutely stunning environment. However the Resort is not maintained well. So the price is too expensive. Staff is very friendly, and the quality of the restaurant is above average. more

We had just driven from Kings Canyon on the Red Centre Way (4wd track) and arrived at Glen Helen in the afternoon. The stunning local scenery and a great swimming hole greeted us. The accommodation is basic but sufficient. You are there for setting. The staff friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was fantastic. The chef slightly eccentric, but a top... more

Superb location at the end of the "bitumen" west of Alice Springs on the edge of the West McDonnell Range. Whilst the food is excellent and there is air con, the place gives a real fell of the early days of pioneering in the Outback. Dusty roads, wide skies but a fabulous waterhole of an oasis. Think tree trunks for... more
