Never encountered ruder staff in reception. Rooms tiny, bunks had paper thin mattresses. Bar and pool area ok but overall a terrible experience. more

we arrived in Darwin on a red eye flight, we did not pre book accomodation and the airport shuttle dropped us off opposite Melaleuca, they were the only place that was open at 0130am. I had a really good time at Melaleuca on Mitchell in Darwin. As a single female travelling it was great. They had fermale only dorms, I was in a 6 bed dorm with air conditioning and lockers to store my backpack in. What can I say Melaleuca is the only place for an amazing stay in Darwin. If you're not a backpacker don't stay here. There is a reasonable hotel next door. Found this hostel to be really overpriced but I think it might just be Darwin in general. Location was very good though. We stayed in an air-conditioned ensuite room in Melaleuca on Mitchell and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to be in the centre of the action - really near some great bars, restaurants and icecream cafes.
