I thought that the accomodation was very good. It was a bit pricey, but the views were absolutely stunning. The location is great- right on the Strand. The Strand is also just amazing. The bed was also amazingly comfortable which was a pleasant surprise! The pools were also both very pleasant. My only complaint would be the shower curtain in... more
The Aquarius on the Beach has got to be the best located hotel/motel in Townsville. The deceptively plain exterior doesn't reveal the hidden secret inside which is, that all of the rooms have views over the cleveland bay and magnetic island area...beautiful! It is the only real highrise building located on Townsville's "The Strand" beachfront and what they've done with... more
Stayed two nights and found the hotel perfectly satisfactory. Room was refurbished, smart and modern. A problem with the balcony sliding door was eventually fixed. It is however, run apartment-style with no restaurant and restricted reception hours. I ordered the room service full breakfast which, at $18, was not cheap but ample and well prepared. Excellent views but some way... more
Aquarius on the Beach was recommended by friends. We booked a bay view room and it was located on the fourth floor of this 15-storey beach front high-rise in which every room or apartment has a view of Cleveland Bay and Magnetic Island. Our room turned out to be essentially a standard motel room with a narrow balcony and a... more
We stayed here for 4 nights while checking out Townsville as a place to live. The hotel itself is well positioned within easy walking distance to shops, bars and cafes. Being right on the Strand was a bonus. The room was lovely, obviously refurbished recently. Good value for money, the only gripe I had was that room service was unavailable... more
My partner and I stayed at the Aquarius in Oct 2007. We had a room at the end of the building and first impressions was WOW! It looked fantastic with the kitchenette and full fridge/freezer, a bath/shower and very modern decor. All the rooms have balconies facing the beach with great views. We arrived late evening so was looking forward... more
I stumbled across this site only recently and having stayed in "Aquarius on the Beach" I'd like to recount my experience.... Having booked over the internet based on the photo's & "4 star" rating I was amazed to discover my room - though bearing some similarity to the photo possibly by dint of having been taken 20 years ago -... more
We visited this hotel over a year ago but just found this forum so thought I'd post this report. Hopefully the hotel has improved and upgraded its rooms since then (July 2006). We booked through a travel website and the photos of the room looked good. Upon entering the room, there was a dark brown mouldy stain at the doorway.... more
The views and overall location are the best part. If you decide to stay though, know a few things before hand. Each room is "privately owned", so if there is construction going on next door, below you, or above you, reception cannot tell you when it will be done. The loudest grinding noise, accompanied by constant banging, kept us from... more
