Who would have thought that this little place on Kangaroo Island could be such an absolute gem . The attention to detail , the food, the warmth and the atmosphere is quite simply as good as you will ever get anywhere. Lyn and Graham are just outstanding people and operators. more

Lyn and Graham make you feel so much at home that it is a shame when you have to leave. The meals are a highlight (amazing food and so fresh) and we agree with other reviews that you need to go on a diet (having spent three nights there). The peace and quiet at the farm are very relaxing and... more

We spent 2 nights At Stranraer Homestead on a 2 week trip to Australia. We didn't know what to expect and were amazed at the Stranraer. Lyn and Graham are wonderful hosts. The rooms, each with their own fireplace were quaint and the beds were exremely comfortable. The first morning we were there, my wife and I went for a... more

We stumbled upon Stranraer Homestead quite by luck and what a break that was! Stranraer is in the middle Kangaroo Island and is, in fact, located on a working sheep farm (if you can call 3000 acres a farm!). After a hard day of touring the island in a bit of blustery weather we were ready to settle in for... more

Lynn and Graham are wonderful hosts. They immediately make you feel welcome and at home. Lynn bakes amazing breads and her breakfasts and dinners are top notch gourmet. Graham took us on a wonderful night tour to see the penguins. We also saw plenty of Wallabys and a kangaroo in the middle of the road. The accomadations are very rustic... more

Stranraer is everything all the other posters have described--if you can adequately describe a huge house built in 1920 by the owner’s grandfather, on a 3,000 acre operating sheep farm, with gourmet meals, fantastic hosts, and every convenience. We arrived on the last flight from Adelaide, and were met at the airport by host Graham Wheaton, who led us to... more

We stayed at the Stranraer Homestead for 2 nights in January during our month long trip to Australia. It was excellent. We rented a car and drove on our own which seems to be a little unusual on Kangaroo Island. When we picked up our rental car the woman at the desk raved about Lyn's cooking. When we met Lyn... more

My friend and I almost skipped Kangaroo Island for extra time in Sydney but we were advised not to. I am so glad we took that advice! Not only did we have a wonderful tour but the Stranraer was lovely! We went in the off season (winter there) and were the only guests. There was a lovely fire awaiting us... more

We really enjoyed our stay at this B&B which was quite comfortable. Our hosts, the Wheatons, were great. There were two other couples (American and Australian) staying at the homestead. The dinner conversation was delightful. The meals that Lyn served were better than a gourmet restaurant. We also took advantage of the penguin tour which Graham provides in the evening.... more

We spent 1 night at Stranraer during a recent 2-day trip to Kangaroo Island. Stranraer is an 80-year old homestead on a large working sheep farm, which offers 3 delightful guest rooms, and a nice relaxing front patio. Our room had an adjacent private bathroom (not en suite). The room had a great bed, linens etc, and had a very... more
