Having read recent reviews with regards to this hotel I can't understand why the stale smell of the carpets has not been mentioned. Downstairs in the reception area and attached coffee house it smells very much like the carpets have become really wet recently and have not been dried out propery. (Flooded?) Up on the floors the smell is no... more

The best about the hotel was its location, being near tram stops and within walking distance of other sights, such as Chinatown, Flinders street station etc. Breakfast was very good offering a wide choice and quantity. I dined out at night so cannot comment on the restaurant service. I found reception staff very helpful in every way, and they were... more

The hotel is in a good location, close to Chinatown and Bourke Street Mall but that is the only thing going. Rooms are very tiny, very dated. I couldn't tell you when these rooms have been updated. Drinks expensive. We were there for a reunion and the functions were held at this hotel and the hot food at the cocktail... more

I stayed in the Mecure Welcome for two nights in October. As a frequent visitor of Accor’s Ibis chain, I was looking forward to experiencing the higher level Mecure hotel. What I will say is that this hotel and the Grand Mecure to which it is connect (but should not be confused with) are in an excellent location. You can... more

2 person room (2 single beds) staying 2 nights. Aircon, TV, with kettle provided for your own coffee and tea. Room service available if needed. Pros - Excellent location. Walking distance to tram and train lines, tour bus office, shopping centres, internet cafes, brilliant spot to begin your journeys from. - Pricing was fairly OK - we booked online and... more

The best thing about this place I would have to say is the location. The rooms themselves were a bit outdated and badly arranged. The view from our room was of a horrible courtyard and of other rooms in the building. A positive would be a very comfortable bed. We had a package deal to stay here on which not... more

The hotel is well placed in the centre of the city, handy for shops, attractions restaurants and transport. The lobby is well presented and reception staff are efficient, if a little frosty! We were a little disappointed by the corridors on our floor (7th floor) and the room. It wasn't terrible, but quite tired, smelled of smoke from the cleaners... more

This is a very basic, no frills hotel. The rooms are very small and the furniture and fittings are a bit tired but it was quite clean. It's in a great location, just behind Bourke Street Mall and right near china town precinct. First night we stayed, the side of the hotel caught fire at 3.30am in the morning. Scary... more

This is the first time I have stayed at the Welcome Mecure, due to the fact that the Hotel I usually stay in was booked out. The staff here are exceptional in their friendliness and helpfulness, the rooms were old ,but spotless, and the sheets snow white, the rooms were on the small side ,for Melbourne, but still big enough... more
