A tired unkempt room with dirty bathroom, tired furnishings, fabrics and bedding. The room smelt, the air conditioning was ineffective and the overall feel of the place was dated and dirty. Even for those on a budget look somewhere else, even the breakfast and the staff were boring. Melbourne offers so much more so unless you want to be disappointed... more

For a 4 and a half star hotel, this place is old and service is poor. Attitude problems when room service needs to be sent back that a dog wouldn't eat, undercooked and lacking in any flavour. Hired staff don't want to be there... that's the feeling we got. more

We arrived into the place earlier than what we we had booked but only because we found out there was limited car parking and it was basically first in best dressed. Booked through wotif. Deal included a free upgrade. Asked about this and was told I was upgraded from queen bed to king bed. King bed was two single beds pushed together, so there was a ridge down the middle (maybe this is why they call it 'Rydges'). We have stayed at this hotel many times in the past and it is usually a very convenient location and the staff are great. The hotel is about 1 to 2 blocks walk to Lygon st and about 15 minutes walk into the centre of Melbourne. There is a tram stop very close by and it also has free parking.... more
