Average motor lodge - large rooms but very dated facilities. Horrible, poorly maintained indoor pool is a small bonus. There was far nicer places but it does what it says on the tin - and I got the impression from our host (who was very business-like) that many of his guests are just staying en route down south. We were headed north, and ventured into the city at night - the largest we had come across after Wellington (even Christchurch seemed smaller). It was very busy, although we found we could park pretty much slap bang in the centre - you could never do that at home. Apparently Hamilton Gardens are nice - but there isn't much else as far we could see. more
