Stayed here with my partner and son for 4 nights. The location is amazing, being right on the edge of such a huge lake. We had Bach no.3 with water views. Even when it rained it was gorgeous. All the basic necessities are available. Use of kayaks is also available. Despite being on the main drag it was very quite.... More

We stayed early April and what more could you ask for - an idyllic location right on the lake. The little units are fully equipped so all you need to bring is your food, a good bottle of wine (or 2) toothbrush and togs! Our only complaint would be that the two nights we had were not enough - thanks... More

Myself and my 10mth old jack russell just returned yesterday from 2 nights at this wonderful establishment. unfortunately, the weather yesterday was not good, but the 2 previous days were perfect & i could quite easily have stayed on the little verandah on the lakefront cottage yesterday, just watching the rain fall over the lake. It is certainly mesmerising. Sadly,... More

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Nice of the local wildlife to put on such show for you too. I've seen a wild pig running down the beach but nothing quite as spectacular as wild horses. Thank you for your wonderful feedback. More

You cannot imagine how gorgeous this location is. This is an "old time" resort with plenty of modern amenities. Our hostess, Sue, couldn't do enough for us. She gave us a list of local sites to visit, made dinner reservations for us, and generally made us feel at home. We had Unit 5 which is a two bedroom and it... More

Words can't do justice the beautiful setting, fantastic facilities and wonderful hospitality at Waitahanui Lodge. The baches are clean, tidy and very comfortable and have everything you could need during your stay. There are lakeside bbq's and seating areas and kayaks and boats available free for use. The views are simply stunning, especially if like us you are lucky enough... More

Thank you so much for your great review. We just love that you keep coming back and introducing friends and family to the Lodge as well. Managing to score a lakefront room for Easter was good planning on your part. It helps that the weather was amazing and all our guests had such a fabulous weekend. Fantastic to see so... More

Only 5kms from Taupo city centre and this property is on the Lake Taupo! We were lucky to get the Lake room, waking up to the magnificent Lake and watch the sunset from our living room area. Sue & Roger run a good tight unit, everything you require is available or close by - why stay in the city centre... More

We were so pleased you decided to stay with us on you return journey so you had the opportunity to choose a lakefront room. They really are that close to the lake edge that you almost feel like you're on a boat. I loved your review, it makes our efforts so worthwhile when people are happy enough to stay another... More

Purely by chance, we stumbled upon this wonderful place on a road trip from Wellington to Auckland at the end of February 2013 and were fortunate that Unit 1 was available. The bed was perfect for a great nights sleep, the unit was spacious and equipped with everything we needed and most importantly, the whole place was exceptionally clean and... More

Spent 5 days on a motorcycle trip with a friend, two bikes and a lot of mileage. Did considerable research and stayed in great places. Waitahanui Lodge was not on the agenda. We had passed the lodge on many occasions on fishing trips and this time decided to stay the night. What a fantastic, brilliant surprise!!! Position: simply CAN NOT... More

Thank you James and all the others who have posted comments on our page. We are constantly reminded by guests how lucky we are to be caretakers of such a beautiful piece of New Zealand history. Places to stay this close to the lake are rare and we are determined to preserve these classic "kiwiana" baches. More

Stayed here in early Nov in 2012. We had booked the unit #3, but since someone had cancelled, Sue (the owner) let us choose between units #3 and #4, which was very nice of her. We took #4 since it was maybe better for our daughter. Either would have been nice, since both units are just a few meters from... More

My partner and I stayed at the lodge over Easter weekend with our two dogs! Was so nice to find somewhere that was in a great location and was pet friendly! Unit was basic but had everything you needed. I will definately be going back again :)
