Being spoilt and never stayed at any hotel short of a five star quality, I was really satisfied with the quality of YHA for its pricing. I had never stayed at a hostel before and didn't really know what to expect; but my room, bathroom and bedding were clean and I had lots of fun. Location was convenient to the... more

Right over the road from Te Papa, this hostel was in a great location. The hostel has good clean double rooms and the kitchens here were huge. more

They have gone green past the point of green, to the point of cheap. The heater only stays on 30 minutes, and then kicks off. This cannot be avoided, we tried and asked. Also, very very young scene. Pretty clean; there was some mold in the shower. No TV, but we expected this. GREAT location. REALLY RUDE, REALLY RUDE staff.... more

YHA Wellington City was easy to find, in a brilliant location to all the shops, bars, cafes, restaurants and attractions. The staff were absolutely brilliant and helped me out with everything I needed, including info on onward travel. My room was spacious, quiet, had a fabulous view and the bathrooms were always spotless and I never had to queue. Brilliant! more

The room was a decent size for 4 beds and being on the 6th floor was quiet. It had no lockers but space for your backpacks and was en-suite with a good shower. The heater wasn’t that good and the room quickly became cold once the heater was switched off. The facilities were, as you would expect, very good: big... more

Its been a long time since I stayed in a hostel and I would have to say I am very impressed. We had a family ensuite room (me, hubby and two young children) and it was brilliant. Yes the rooms are small but they are very clean and safe - and cheap! (we got a special deal, kids for free... more

This was large hostel and the rooms were nice and new but extremely small. The kitchens and communal area, however, were very big and there was plenty of space. The hostel was right across the road form a supermarket and close to the museum. The staff were very helpful and the internet availablility was good. more

20 May 2009 | Trip type: Family

We stayed on at one of the city centre hotels with excellent leisure amenities, two double beds and full breakfast. We then booked into an ensuite room at the YHA, and saved only NZ$40 a night, losing all the amenities and the all-you-can-eat brekky. Building resounds with vibration from lifts and is positioned on a busy corner of the one-way... more

We had an ensuite room for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The facilities are superb, though the dining area can get pretty busy around 7pm when lots of people want to have dinner. Having a huge supermarket just across the road is really handy. In fact the central location makes the hostel incredible value. Our room was really... more

Stayed here for two nights after getting off the ferry from the South Island, where we had found NZ YHAs to be superb - generally quiet, too - so was a shock to find such a bustling city-centre YHA. Difficult if you have a car though - you have to park 1/2 mile up the road, and you need a... more
