This was our second time staying in this historic hotel in a picturesque old part of Wellington; it is located within walking distance of major attractions such as the Te PaPa Museum, waterfront, cable car, and is adjacent to the Speight's Ale House which we also enjoyed very much for dinner. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean. Perhaps our second stay was inspired by an overly fond memory of an exceptionally friendly and helpful staff member from our first visit.
This hotel has a great history and has been maintained to resemble its original appearance and perhaps decor (with the exception of an amusing series of portraits depicting cartoonish sheep dressed as noblemen). Some rooms are more spacious and better appointed than others - we had a tiny room with a bathroom that seems to have been made out of an old closet -- so prospective customers should review the offerings to be sure the room selected will be adequate.
