Traveling with friends for 3 weeks, we stayed here for 3 nights. We'd opted for the dinners each night, even though the kitchen in the cottage was terrific, and were so glad we did! Do NOT miss a chance to stay at Nokomai Station. It's far and away the best place we stayed on the South Island of New Zealand. If your looking for a authentic farm experience in New Zealand, Nokomai Station is the place to stay. We loved our visit there, and the hospitality we received from the owners. Nokomai Station is an iconic high country sheep and cattle station in Northern Southland, New Zealand. Nokomai Valley Accommodation offers four modern colonial styled one and two bedroom self contained cottages nestled amongst beautiful old trees and surrounding the settler's original stone homestead. Here at Nokomai we endeavour to give our guests a truley unique holiday experience with a wide range of activities right on our back door step - these include Fly fishing, Farm tours, Helicopter flights, Walking, Mountain biking and Golf Cross.Nokomai Station is only one hours drive from Queenstown and is on your direct path to Milford Sound. The accommodation season is open from October through til April. Each cottage is fully set up for self catering however most of our guests enjoy dining in the restored historic stone homestead meeting other guests and enjoying a delicious two course country styled meal. The cottages have their own laundry facilities, super king size beds, Sky tv, phone and Wifi internet making these exceptional 'homes away from home'. Nokomai is well positioned as a base for fly fishing anglers with a vast array of different rivers and streams within an hours drive. Nearest and most important is the Mataura River, which flows through Nokomai for atleast 20km. The Mataura is world famous for its brown trout and clear waters whihch provide excellent opportunities for sight fishing. We can arrange local fishing guides to take guests out.Nokomai Station is a fully operational high country sheep and cattle station - one of the largest in the country. You get a unique opportunity to watch it as it happens and get up close to the animals. We also offer farm tours where you can feed pets and if suitable, watch dogs working. Nokomai Station also has a wide variety of tracks and trails that are ideal for walking/biking and exploring our high setting.
