We loved Straw Lodge. It was truly the perfect place to stay in Marlborough. Nettie and Jane were kind and gracious hosts with excellent recommendations on what to do and where to go. The lodge is in a working vineyard, which was really cool, and close to the best wineries Marlborough has to offer. Definitely recommend taking the Lodge's motorized... more

I can't say enough just how great the Straw Lodge is. Nettie, Jane, Bill & Texas are the perfect hosts. The setting is incredible. Picture this: You wake up after a restful sleep, walk out your door, and are immediately hit with the fragrance of lavender and fresh air. The vineyard stretches out in front of you, across the valley... more

Looking back this was a close to heaven as we could get. During a month long stay in NZ (3 weeks south/1 north) we had 2 days scheduled at the Straw Lodge. As it turns out we shuffled our schedule and made it 3, wishing it had been 3 weeks. I cannot describe enough how much we enjoyed this location... more

We stayed at Straw Lodge as part of our Honeymoon in New Zealand. Having read all the reviews we had high expectations but it turned out to be even better! It has a lovely relaxed atmosphere with a private outside area surrounded by vines or a common area with a BBQ which we put to good use to cook some... more

Wow! Yes, we read the TripAdvisor comments about Straw Lodge before booking, but they couldn't prepare us for just how wonderful a place this is. From the moment Texas the Black Lab sauntered out to greet us until our departure with hugs from Nettie and Jane, and a strong handshake from a smiling Bill, we felt like we were staying... more

Do yourself a favour and stay at Straw Lodge if you are in the neighborhood. As everybody else we had a lovely time at Straw Lodge and whished we could have stayed longer. I think that almost everything has been said about this wonderful place and the generosity of Nettie and Jane (yes, you to Texas). We will miss the... more

Simply cannot recommend this place high enough and a perfect last 2 days in 3 weeks touring NZ. This isn't simply a business for Hettie, Jane and Bill...its a lifestyle and I've never experienced such a generous welcome anywhere else I've stayed. We usually keep ourselves to ourselves but on arrival, by the time Hettie had genially showed us round... more

We stayed at Straw Lodge towards the end of our honeymoon. It was a perfect place to stay - the room was spotless and very welcoming, the views and surroundings stunning, and the hosts delightful and welcoming. We had great fun on the elctric bikes that Netty can lend you, exploring the vin yards in the sun shine, and stayed... more

Straw Lodge is an excellent find and a great place to stay and use as a base for exploring the Marlborough Vineyard region. It's pretty unique in so much that it's a boutique working vineyard and the accommodation is made from straw (apparently the penny doesn't drop with all visitors :-) You're literally surrounded by the vines so you really... more

We stayed at Straw Lodge over Xmas which was a wonderfully relaxing treat. The Lodge is in a stunning location with some wonderful vineyards close by and their own wine which we naturally sampled is also excellent. Nettie, Jane & Bill were excellent and very informative hosts. Our room was very private with great views over the garden to the... more
