This is not your usual concrete and glass modern business hotel. it's the sort of the place the Queen might have stayed in a royal tour in the days we cared about such things! It has however been modernised a few times. I had a Standard King room on the manse street side so it was quite. The bed was... more

We only stayed one night in Dunedin, and the Mercure hotel was perfectly adequate for our lodging needs. The front desk staff was very helpful in trying to get us a restaurant booking at the last-minute, despite the fact that every decent place was already full. The hotel is "vintage" -- definitely a classic with some quirks (take the elevator... more

A centrally located hotel close to Casino and the Octagon. The inside is well-refurbished with modern interior look. The lift was a bit out-dated, but had old-worldly charm about it. The service at the desk was helpful, but I wasn't keen on the $20 valet parking, so we had to park elsewhere. We will stay here again when in Dunedin. more

Nice, warm and tidy rooms for the price. Photos on the web site are all of the common areas... lovely old building renovated and tidy. Would not want to pay the full rack rate as the bathroom was needing a good clean and paint, glad we got a last minute deal. Restaurant got good review on another site but we... more

This hotel is located about 4 blocks from the Octagen (Central Dunedin). The price was OK for the room but it was at the back of the old renovated building. However when we arrived there was no heating and Dunedin is bitter in June. The staff quickly found a column heater which warmed the room. The hotel was not very... more

This was a lovely hotel, and the restaurant , although tucked away, provided good food. The outer exterior is beautiful, but the rooms inside, just like any modern hotel. It is a bit of a walk from the Octagon/city centre - but still possible to walk to all the sights - Cadbury Factory, station etc from here. Staff were very... more

We stayed at Mercure Dunedin on our way to Queenstown for one night- we loved the food We were charged for the minibar which we did not use and they promptly refunded us which was NOT the case when we stayed at Peppers Moonah Link in Mornington Victoria- they did not return calls and did not respond to my faxes/... more

If you like the colour grey, stairs and tiny rooms - stay here. Otherwise not great. The staff were nice and pretty helpful but I don't think I have ever stayed in a more dreary dull hotel. The 20 Dollar safe carparking was abit of a con also. more

Street traffic. Strip club across street till 4 a.m. with loud music and "guests." Not to mention two men (?) walking up and down back fire escape at 03:30 a.m. looking to gain access to hotel. Called front desk to report and no one seemed too concerned. At check out, our bill had charges we didn't make. more

The Mercure is a lovely central hotel. The reception staff were excellent in fact they were the best staff we encountered during our tour of the South Island - nothing was too much trouble and they were always polite and cheerful. Our room was on a main road and was a little noisy but overall a beautiful hotel and would... more
