The B & B is now run by an enthusiastic and charming new owner Jenni and her 14 year old son Jake. Jenni has retail and online quilting business experience, but this is her first sortie into the hospitality industry. She deserves to prosper and will do well – our en suite room and the house overall was comfortable, spotless... more

I spent my three nights in Dunedin at the City Sanctuary and thoroughly enjoyed it. New owner Jenny made me feel welcome right from the start. She showed great, enthusiastic interest in her guests and was a delight to converse with over breakfast. My spacious room was extremely comfortable, and the breakfast looking out onto the back garden was the... more

We stayed here for only one night, but we wish we could have stayed longer. Jenny took over this B&B recently, and is a wonderful host. Excellent breakfast. Good advice on things to do & see. Cheerful person: nice to be with. Be prepared to park your car on a very steep hill, though. more

We loved this place! We met the new owner, she was really helpful and accommodating. Our room was spacious with the windows looking out to an enchanting garden up front. Our bathroom was huge and spotless. A delicious breakfast is served in the communal dining area, which also looks out to a beautiful garden in the back. I would recommend... more

New owner Jenny was very friendly and provided us with an excellent place to stay. Access to the property is up two flights of stairs, but once up there we found it was well worth our effort. We stayed in Queen room called 'The Snug'. Our bathroom was separate, straight across the hall. Everything was spotless, neat and tidy. Loved... more

We spent 3 nights at the City Sanctuary and could not fault the place - hosts are incredibly helpful and the accommodation is first class. Clean, comfortable and roomy. Breakfast was varied and scrumptious! Home made cookies a real treat. Resident cats, delightful! more

At first I was surprised by the location of the B & B. I'm used to walking but the streets were super steep and the city center of Dunedin was a little farther than we expected. Dunedin also didn't seem as spectacular as people had made it sound. We ended up driving to the Otago Peninsula instead which was just... more

We were given a most wonderful welcome when we arrived at the City Sanctuary: Paul volunteered to carry our (very) heavy suitcases and he and Karen made us tea and offered us home-made biscuits. They showed us around their beautiful home and did everything possible to make us comfortable, including booking a table for us at the most wonderful restaurant,... more

We were B&B novists. This was our first ( OF MANY) B&B experiences in NZ. Karen & Paul were exceptional hosts and offered a quality service with very high standards. Outstanding in so many ways. Comfy beds, warm cosy rooms, great food, exceptional local knowledge and the hospitality is 2nd to none. We could not speak more highly of them.... more

We stayed 5 nights with Paul and Karen, two charming and most hospitable people with a real sense of fun - and 4 lovely cats! Their delightful home sits high above Dunedin but is still within walking distance of the centre of the city - nearly all downhill going and a taxi ride (not expensive) our preferred mode of transport... more
