A gorgeous little cafe is attached to this massive hostel right in the middle of Invercargill. The staff are friendly, our room was clean and with towels provided, the shower (we stayed in a double ensuite for a night) was hot and powerful and the shared facilities were clean and spacious.

The only downside is that, although the hostel was quiet, the nearby church starts ringing its bells at 7am and then every 15 minutes afterwards so don't expect a sleep in! I'm not sure if this is also the case at the weekend, however...

Located right on Dee Street this hostel is in an old nightclub building and a good spot in town. There's off-street parking out the back but only room for about 6 or 7 cars. I was here in the middle of Winter so there were only about 10 people in the whole hostel, I can imagine in Summer it gets packed.

The rooms were spotless (I had a dorm to myself!) and comfy though if you're there at the weekend be aware that the local kids like to cruise up and down Dee Street in their very loud souped-up cars so it can be quite noisy. Theres also limited bathroom space (2nd floor only has one female toilet & shower) so again in Summer it could get busy. The kitchen is big and theres a lovely cosy tv room off of it on the 2nd floor.

Reception is huge and they have acres of information on everything to do in the area. Towels can be hired for $1. Theres also a wine bar / restaurant in the reception area (but be advised it closes at 16:30 in winter).

A good place...
