luckily transferred from YHA central to lakeside, best choice ever. lakeside on queenstown. short walk to bars, shopping, queenstown main drag. hostel interior - lots of computers, huge kitchen, tons of brochures, food for sale, laundry facilities, massive massive bathrooms, most rooms also ensuite i think. quiet area as well as tv room which was too hot. stayed for 3... more

Trying to save money by spending a few days 'slumming it' led us to the YHA. It was our first experience of NZ YHA but it was a favourable one on the whole. Relatively quiet during the day - our room was out of the danger zone and away from the dorms/bathrooms - which were full of giggly and loud... more

I can hear people running down the hallway at any odd hours, my room was next to a bathroom which didn't help. Bed linen are of some dark colours, so you can't really tell if they are clean or not. Front desk also work as some kind of booking agency for the activities so they are very busy, checking in... more

Nice place, exactly what you'd generally expect from a YHA - well organised, clean, friendly staff. It's about a ten minute walk into town, wasn't any trouble and meant the location was nicer than being in one of the hostels right along the main street. Nice view over the lake. Lots of areas to sit and relax, good internet access.... more

This YHA is roughly a ten minute walk into town but it has a very picturesque location on the lakefront The rooms did feel quite small making it very cosy though they were extremely clean. The kitchen was also quite large and plenty of stations to prepare food at. The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable making for a very... more

Nice location, about 10 - 15 minutes walk into town along the main road by yhe lake - plenty to gaze at too on the walk. Typical YHA, nice kitchen area & common room etc, we stayed in a double room & felt a bit ripped off though, the dorms seem much better value - in the double room you... more

We stayed two nights in this hostel in a double room. I have nothing bad to say about the hostel. It is a typical YHA hostel : big, well-run, clean. The location is good, by the lakefront. It is relatively quiet. Overall, it is good value for the money considering the other options in Queenstown. more

Stayed at the YHA Lakefront in Queenstown in April 06 and would not recommend it. The Esplanade where it is situated is very noisy due to the current building boom nearby and the double rooms are small and cell-like with no facilities. Next time I would pay a bit more for comfort or try one of the many private backpacker... more

Great hostel. Staff are super friendly and as Queenstown is quite an activity place, they are very well informed and are able to book things on your behalf - they may even get you discounts. The rooms, aren't huge, but personally i don't need a room to walk around in, just a bed to sleep. Kitchen is good, with plently... more

I stayed 3 nights at this hostel last year during my Kiwi Experience tour. Excellent location (near the QTW lake), good staff and rather cheap. A good place to stay if you are on a tight budget. more
