This is a great hostel, especially if you are travelling around on your own, as it is so easy to meet people here! The common rooms are spacious, with a kitchen, dining room and lounge all in one room (there contains two separate common rooms in the hostel). The dorm rooms are roomy, i stopped in the 6 bed dorm... more

Nice backpackers with a very nice whirpool in a terrible town in the most beautiful part of New Zealand. Go check Deer Park Heights (or what was the name :). more

My boyfriend and I stayed here in the double ensuite room. It was clean, though it was underneath the building and the outlook was just at another building. It was hence quite dark and didn't have any windows with a nice outlook or anything, but I guess that's what you get for the price you pay. more

We stayed here several times over the ski season and were always impressed - there is a wide range of rooms from doubles (even with your own bathroom) to 3 and four bed dorms with your own kitchen and tv. The location is great - always clean and tidy. we must have stayed here over 8 weekends throughout winter and... more

Staff billed room twice and could not track billing history. We had to move to another room because there was only one ensuite. Free soup was OK. Rooms were too small compared with many other hostels in NZ. more

Fab!!

Southern Laughter is one of the best hostels i've stayed in. The hostel is exceptionally clean and tidy regardless what time of day it is!! The dorms are a good size and there are two big kitchens for guests to use. There is free soup every night at 6pm and free tea and coffee...what more could you want!! The staff... more

Simply excellent. It got everything a young people looks for. Facilities are new & clean. Interior decor in vibrant colors. Humor is the theme of the hostel. You can see funny quotes painted on wall. Room is cosy. Staff are extremely helpful. You can also get free beer if booking local tours / activities via the reception. It's not far... more
