The staff are very friendly and helpful. Reservations and bookings in advance worked properly. Always a good feeling getting warm welcomed. Hippo Lodge is a spacious, very clean and quite accommodation at reasonable price. One of the best hostel we have stayed in. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The small hike up the hill is well worth the effort for the FANTASTIC VIEW. We really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in one of the double, non-ensuite rooms, and it was great. One floor of the house just has three rooms on it, one with an en-suite, so you only share a bathroom with one other double room, and a kitchen between three rooms. The room was acceptable, but the toilet/shower did not look too clean. Plus there was only one of each, so had to queue. The kitchen has a really strange smell and the TV is in there, so if your room is around that area, you won't get much sleep. It is very noisy, which obviously is dependent on who stays... More

Hippo lodge has a great view over Queenstown but as other reviews have mentioned this means a bit of a steep climb up from the bottom and then a number of stairs to the dorms. The hostel itself was okay nothing fantastic to rave about and it appears that there are quite a few long term residents in the hostel.... More
